Doncaster, Doncaster, United Kingdom Doncaster Council Full time £20,000 - £40,000 per year

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is preparing to relaunch, in preparation for this we are seeking to appoint Air Traffic Services Assistants to be part of new and exciting team who will be involved in helping the airport to open and grow.

This is a rare opportunity to work directly alongside experienced Tower and Radar controllers at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, supporting real-time air traffic control operations while building a career in one of the most respected and safety-critical sectors in the world.

It is an opportunity to be part of developing a new team who are passionate about delivering safe, efficient and timely air travel to passengers from across the UK at the UK's newest airport. This opportunity offers the chance to advance your career at a modern and forward-looking air traffic control unit.

This role is ideal for individuals looking to begin or grow a career in aviation—whether you're a recent school leaver with strong GCSEs or someone seeking a purposeful, high-integrity role in a fast-paced operational environment. We have opportunities for people wanting to start their career or for people who already have experience as an Air Traffic Services Assistant. See the progression criteria attached for further details. You'll play a key part in ensuring safety by providing operational, technical and administrative support to the Fly Doncaster Air Traffic Control team.

About The Role
This role will provide operational support across the Air Traffic Services team working on a variety of different work streams to deliver a safe and efficient service. Working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders no two days will be the same.

This role will be primarily shift-based to support 24/7 operations as Airport operations grow. You'll work in a professional, supportive, and disciplined team that values integrity, teamwork, and safety above all. In return, you'll gain valuable experience in air traffic operations and have the chance to contribute directly to maintaining one of the UK's safest regional airports.

For candidates who excel in the ATSA role, there may be opportunities considered (subject to eligibility) for the Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) trainee scheme, a structured development programme that can lead to becoming an Air Traffic Control Officer — a highly sought-after and well-rewarded career path.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Supporting Air Traffic Controllers in both Tower and Radar environments to maintain safe, efficient operations
  • Conducting meteorological observations critical to flight safety
  • Delivering a range of operational and administrative support, including managing regulatory documentation and producing amendments to ATC procedures
  • Participating in safety investigations, supporting the Safety Management System (SMS), and carrying out risk assessments
  • Operating the ATC 3D simulator, developing and running training exercises in coordination with the Unit Training Manager
  • Supporting the Head of Air Traffic Services in delivering internal training, safety improvement projects and audits
  • Maintaining high standards of document control and working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure compliance and safety

The Successful Candidate
You will have a passion for aviation and a desire to be part of a developing Air Traffic Control team. Strong communication skills are essential with ability to make decisions and multitask in a challenging and rewarding environment.

In return for your hard work and dedication, we can offer you the chance to be part of a great team dedicated to ensuring that Doncaster Sheffield Airport thrives. You will also have access to a variety of attractive employee benefits including competitive leave entitlement and a generous pension scheme.

Please ensure you view the job summary and progression criteria as you will need to demonstrate in your application form how you meet the required criteria.
