Role purpose

Building Safety Act Consult Limited is currently looking for a Board Director to join the company for succession planning. As a Board Director you will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and governance to ensure the company fulfils its mission to deliver excellence in Building Safety Act compliance. You will contribute to the development and execution of the company's strategic objectives while upholding the highest standards of corporate governance, integrity, and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Contribute to the formulation and implementation of the company's strategic plan in alignment with its vision, mission, and business objectives.
  • Provide effective oversight of management performance, risk management, and corporate governance.
  • Ensure the company's operations and services align with the requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations, and relevant statutory instruments.
  • Champion a culture of safety, transparency, and accountability in all corporate and operational activities.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure robust systems are in place for compliance with all legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations.
  • Oversee the effectiveness of the company's safety management systems, compliance frameworks, and audit mechanisms.
  • Support the development of company policies and procedures aligned with the Building Safety Regulator's expectations and best practice.

Board & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Participate actively in Board and committee meetings, providing constructive challenge and independent judgement.
  • Maintain effective relationships with regulators, clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.
  • Promote the company's reputation as a trusted leader in Building Safety Act compliance and building assurance.

Risk & Performance Management

  • Identify and assess strategic and operational risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Monitor performance against agreed KPIs, budgets, and corporate objectives.
  • Support continual improvement and innovation in compliance processes, digital tools, and service delivery.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Extensive experience in the UK construction, property, building control, or building safety sector.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations, and associated approved documents.
  • A proven track record of leadership at Board or senior executive level.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience leading and managing own profit and loss within a UK business.
  • Experience maintaining and managing client relationships with developers in the construction industry.
  • Previous experience leading business planning.
  • Experience leading the building control function on large scale construction projects

Desirable Criteria

  • Be a Class 3 Registered Building Inspector (RBI).
  • Experience growing a small business.
  • Chartered professional status (e.g. MCIOB, MRICS, CEng, MIFireE, or equivalent).
  • Experience engaging with the Building Safety Regulator or similar statutory bodies.
  • Knowledge of digital compliance systems, safety case reporting, and building information management.
  • Prior non-executive director or trustee experience in a regulated industry.
