Network Designer - Dorset
Wessex Internet is an award-winning broadband provider on a mission to transform rural connectivity across the Southwest. As we expand into the New Forest, Wiltshire, and South & West Dorset, we're looking for Network Designer to join our Special Projects Planning team.
Our Special Projects Planning Team delivers complex and bespoke customer connections — often involving detailed technical design and land access coordination.
As a Network Designer, you'll help bring these projects to life by:
- Designing fibre routes across our legacy and XGS networks
- Recording and maintaining accurate network plans in our build software
- Delivering quick, high-quality designs that enable seamless project delivery
This is a role where precision meets pace — perfect for someone who loves turning plans into reality.
What We Offer
- Up to £36,000 starting salary, dependent on experience.
- Genuine opportunities to progress—supervisory and team lead routes available.
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days.
- Private medical insurance, life assurance & income protection.
- Cycle to Work & Tech purchase schemes.
- Enhanced family leave policies.
- Staff broadband discount (75%).
- High street discounts on 100+ brands.
- Summer & Christmas team socials.
What You'll Be Doing
- Keeping our network database up to date and accurate
- Creating detailed network maps using GIS mapping tools (Vetro, QGIS, Google Earth, Vitruvi)
- Supporting the Construction Team with fibre planning, mapping, and documentation
- Providing real-time technical support to field engineers and network splicers
- Producing fibre splicing matrices and expansion quotes
- Preparing information for PIA, permitting, and wayleave submissions
- Producing accurate as-built documentation
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have
- A degree (or equivalent experience) in Surveying, Geography, Geology or a related field (advantageous)
- Experience using CAD or GIS software (advantageous)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive, can-do attitude with strong problem-solving abilities
- Confidence juggling multiple projects at different stages
- Strong IT skills and a natural aptitude for learning new software
We're not just building networks — we're building the future of rural living. If you're ready to kickstart your career in fibre and be part of a passionate, forward-thinking team, this is your chance.
Apply today and help connect communities for generations to come.
