Job Description: Transport Planner (European Export Refrigeration Specialist)

Location: Redditch, Worcestershire, UK

Salary: £35,000 – £42,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Reports to: Transport Operations Manager

Harrisons Anglo International Transport, recently acquired by Crown Investment Group is a leading temperature-controlled logistics provider specialising in refrigerated and frozen food exports across Europe. Operating from our depot in Redditch, we deliver time-critical, compliant solutions to major retailers, manufacturers and distributors in the UK and EU.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner with proven expertise in refrigerated European export operations to join our dynamic planning team and support our fantastic Transport Manager. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating and optimising temperature-controlled road freight movements from the UK to destinations across the EU.

This is a fast-paced, customer-facing role requiring strong geographical knowledge, refrigeration compliance expertise and the ability to solve complex routing challenges under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule daily/weekly refrigerated export loads using multi-drop, backhaul and groupage strategies.

• Ensure full compliance with EU Drivers' Hours, tachograph regulations, ATP certification and temperature-controlled transport standards (HACCP, GDP).

• Select and book appropriate refrigerated trailers (single/multi-temp, dual-compartment, Euro-liners).

• Liaise with hauliers, drivers, customs agents and warehouse teams to ensure seamless collections and deliveries.

• Manage CMR documentation, T1/T2 transit documents, export health certificates (EHC) and post-Brexit customs requirements.

• Monitor live vehicle temperatures via telematics and respond immediately to deviations.

• Optimise routes to minimise mileage, fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions while meeting customer ETAs.

• Handle escalations including delays, border issues, ferry crossings and driver welfare.

• Provide proactive customer updates and resolve queries relating to proof of delivery (POD) and temperature logs.

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., load fill optimisation, subcontractor performance).

Essential Experience & Skills

• Minimum 3 years' experience as a Transport Planner within refrigerated European export operations.

• In-depth knowledge of temperature-controlled logistics, including multi-compartment trailers and real-time temperature monitoring systems.

• Proven track record managing UK–EU export routes post-Brexit (customs declarations, ENS, GVMS, T-Docs).

• Strong geographical knowledge of European road networks, ferry ports (Dover, Eurotunnel, Hull, Immingham) and key border crossings.

• Proficiency with transport management systems (TMS) – e.g., Mandata, HaulTech, Transporeon or similar.

• Advanced Excel skills for load planning, KPI reporting and cost analysis.

• Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) – fluent English; additional European language (French, German, Dutch or Spanish) highly advantageous but not necessary.

Qualifications

• CPC National/International (desirable but not essential).

• IOSH or NEBOSH (advantageous).
