North East NMH are looking for mentors to work in person across universities in York and online nationwide. The rates of pay do not differ for online or in person work.

Fully flexible working pattern – you decide how many hours per week you'd like to work and where you can travel to.

We're looking for people who are professional, empathetic and flexible with experience of working with DSA-funded students in HE environments.

Responsibilities:

Work in a person-centred manner, with sensitivity, empathy and unconditional positive regard, adapting your support to the student's requirements and communication style.

Manage your own time and workload independently.

Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to confidentiality, data protection and code of conduct requirements.

Support students to overcome any barriers that their conditions are posing to them achieving academic success, whilst highlighting and harnessing their strengths.

All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and have a current DBS check. If you're subscribed to the DBS update service, you will not need to reapply.

The requirements are as follows:

Specialist Mentor (SM-ASC)

Educated to degree level

Experience of working with autistic students and students with ADHD

Relevant qualification or willingness to obtain this through Optimum Student Support training course: Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies

OR NAS Core Modules and additional requirements noted in this matrix:

Specialist Mentor (SM-MH)

Educated to degree level and membership of a mental health related professional body such as BPS Graduate member (GMBPsS). For BPS Chartered and Graduate members, the following is required: a). A postgraduate qualification in mental health (an undergraduate degree in mental health is not acceptable. The qualification must be a postgraduate degree in mental health); and b). 30 hours of mental health relevant continuous professional development (CPD) annually; and c. engagement in supervision.
