Purpose of the Role

The PE Teacher will plan, deliver and assess engaging, high-quality PE lessons within partner schools in the Shrewsbury and Telford area. They will support extra-curricular sports programmes and promote physical activity as a key part of pupil development, encouraging health, fitness, teamwork, and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess inclusive PE lessons in line with the national curriculum.
  • Promote physical literacy, teamwork, coordination, and personal wellbeing.
  • Deliver a wide range of sports and activities to engage pupils of all abilities.
  • Organise and lead extra-curricular clubs, fixtures, and sporting events.
  • Track and report on pupil progress and set development targets.
  • Ensure a safe and well-managed learning environment, with correct use and storage of equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff to support behaviour, pastoral care, and wider educational goals.
  • Contribute to CPD activities and maintain professional development.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and the wider community.
  • Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and inclusion policies at all times.

  • Lesson Quality:
    High standard of teaching, evidenced through observations, lesson plans, and pupil engagement.
  • Pupil Progress:
    Measurable improvement in pupil fitness, skills, confidence, and knowledge of PE.
  • Participation:
    Increased participation in lessons, clubs, and extra-curricular activities.
  • Behaviour & Inclusion:
    Effective management of behaviour; inclusive participation from all pupils.
  • Safeguarding Compliance:
    Consistent adherence to safeguarding, child protection, and health & safety requirements.
  • Professional Development:
    Active involvement in training and contribution to sharing best practice within the team.

Person Specification

Essential

DBS Certification

Ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons for varied abilities.

Strong organisational and communication skills.

Up-to-date safeguarding, first aid, and child protection knowledge.

Experience delivering PE across multiple schools or age groups

Coaching qualifications or specialist sports certifications.

Desirable

Ability to drive and holds a current driving licence

Experience leading school sports events or competitive fixtures.

Experience in delivering inclusive or alternative sports.

Understanding of health, fitness, and wellbeing beyond sport.
