The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is seeking a Head of Communications You will join the Communication Team that is responsible for the delivery of public relations, marketing, and internal communications in support of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency which includes, UK Technical and Customer Maritime Services, the UK Ship Register, UK Shipping Concierge, MCA support services and His Majesty's Coastguard - the UK's only national emergency service. The Communications Team is responsible for a range of digital channels, both internal and external, that are critical to ensure the delivery of key communications campaigns and publications from across all business areas.

Job descriptionAs the Head of Communications, you will report to the Assistant Director of Communications sitting in the wider Directorate of People and Safety and Corporate Services. You will look after the day-to-day management of the Communications Team and the delivery of the communications, media and marketing delivery plan.
You will support the Assistant Director of Communications in setting the strategic direction of the Communications Team and working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of the key deliverables.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:
- Managing the Communications Team to support the delivery of the Agency's Strategy and business plans, ensuring individuals are developed to their full potential.
- Supporting the development and implementation of strategies for effective media engagement and management.
- Leading media engagement to present MCA stories positively and promotes safety, maritime growth and innovation.
- Understanding the diversity of the MCA's stakeholders and develop engagement plans to influence different audiences in different contexts.
- Using customer insight to target safety and marketing messages to meet Agency objectives.
- Driving the use of digital communications and social media to present the MCA and its messages in the most effective way possible
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to meet their external marketing, media and communications needs.
- Leading creative approaches to internal communications to engage MCA colleagues at all levels, across operational disciplines and across our diverse locations.
- Developing proposals and submit business cases for resources to support initiatives and campaigns and manage the Agency's marketing and media budget.

Person specificationRequired experience:
To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Demonstrable experience of managing a multi-functioned communications team i.e., Marketing, Digital Channels, Press, Social Media, and Content Creation
- Experience of managing and influencing a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience of working with press and media organisations
- Experience of supporting the development and implementation of communication strategies
- An experienced communications professional.
Additional Information
Working hours, office attendance and travel requirementsFull time roles consist of 37 hours per week.
Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least30 hours per week.
This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.
The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.
Occasional travel to other offices will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
