The Role

The School of Government and International Affairs (SGIA) is seeking a Student Social Media Assistant to help strengthen our digital presence and showcase life in our department online.

The role will involve:

  • Creating engaging content (posts, photos, short videos) for our social media channels.
  • Attending departmental events when required to capture photos or short clips for use online.
  • Working with the Communications Lead to create stories that highlight student life, research, and community at SGIA.

This is a great opportunity to develop your digital communication skills, gain experience in content creation, and contribute to promoting SGIA to wider audiences.

Requirements

  • Very good English language skills are required for this role.

  • Applicants must be SGIA students from any level — please confirm which applies on your CV.
  • We are seeking applicants who are independent, proactive, and trustworthy.
  • Prior experience with content creation, photography, or visual/video production is desirable.

Communications Assistant

Casual rate

Under instruction and following appropriate training:

  • Proactively seek news stories and engagement opportunities from relevant stakeholders

  • Create content for various communication methods, consulting with colleagues before publishing/posting where necessary

  • Develop and maintain communication tools, which may include the department's social media accounts and internal and external webpages associated to the department

  • Answer routine messages and queries from relevant accounts and platforms, flagging any issues with colleagues

  • Develop communication templates for use within the department, for example emails, webpages and social media posts
