Due to continued business growth, our client, a well-established and reputable Civil Engineering Contractor, is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join their expanding HSE team on a permanent basis.

Working closely with construction project delivery teams, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting, advising, and implementing Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) processes, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives across a variety of construction sites throughout Scotland.

Reporting to senior management, the Health & Safety Advisor will provide both technical and administrative support to ensure the highest standards of HSE performance and compliance are achieved across all projects.

Key Responsibilities:

HSE Management & Planning

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of key HSE management plans, including Project Management Plans (PMP), Construction Phase Plans (CPP), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist with the preparation and approval of Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS) and work permits.

Safety Leadership & Engagement

  • Deliver and support site safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
  • Promote behavioural safety initiatives and foster a positive, proactive safety culture across project teams.

Technical Support & Compliance

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on HSE matters throughout all phases of project delivery, from tender to completion.
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE Management Systems, industry regulations, and best practices.
  • Support HSE monitoring, auditing, and reporting, identifying key trends and opportunities for improvement.

Incident Management

  • Assist with incident and near-miss investigations, ensuring accurate reporting, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions.

Risk Management & Review

  • Identify potential hazards and support teams in developing effective mitigation measures.
  • Conduct project reviews to highlight unusual risks and opportunities for improvement.

Client & Stakeholder Liaison

  • Represent the company at client HSE meetings and project progress reviews, ensuring clear communication and a collaborative approach to safety management.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience within a civil engineering or construction environment.
  • Strong passion for health, safety, and environmental excellence.
  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (minimum).
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint applications.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel, including overnight stays as required.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, ideally working towards Chartered IOSH status.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to managing multiple projects and priorities.
