Job Description
Nokia Technology's patent portfolio team is at the forefront of managing Nokia's industry-leading patent portfolio, driving the growth of our licensing business. Comprising a global group of intellectual property and technical professionals, this team is dedicated to enhancing value from Nokia's patents and R&D efforts. We focus on transforming research into innovative solutions while effectively monetizing Nokia's world-class patent assets. In this role, you will have a direct impact on the management and monetization of Nokia's world class Multimedia patent portfolio. Video coding experience is essential for this role.

We are seeking an experienced video compression expert with extensive knowledge of H.26X, AV1 and VP9 codecs. Strong patent expertise, particularly in patent assertion, claim chart drafting, and litigation support is a major plus. The ideal candidate has a proven record of presenting claim charts to third parties and excels at managing multiple projects, including technical analysis of patent claims and in-depth discussions on claim charts.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn

  • Conducting technical analysis of multimedia-related patents, primarily focused on video codecs e.g. H.26X, AVX codecs, and preparing detailed claim charts.
  • Performing prior-art search and validity analysis on patents in multimedia technology areas.
  • Engaging in technical licensing discussions, presenting claim charts to potential licensees, and addressing technical counterarguments.
  • Providing technical assistance in patent litigation activities.

Key Skills And Experience

  • Expertise in video compression codecs (e.g. H.26X, AV1, or VP9).
  • Experience in reviewing patent applications and generating claim charts.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

It would be nice if you also had:

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar area.
  • Qualified as an EP patent attorney.
  • Attendance and contribution to MPEG and JVET standardization meetings.
