Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Excavator Operator / General Operative to join our construction team. This is a varied role that combines excavator operation with general site duties. While operating machinery will form a key part of your work, there will be times when you'll assist with other tasks on site , including groundworks, labouring, and general support, depending on project needs.

This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, works safely, values teamwork, and is happy to get involved wherever needed to help the job get done safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators to perform digging, trenching, lifting, grading, and material handling tasks as required.
  • Carry out daily inspections and basic maintenance checks on machinery.
  • Follow all site health and safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Assist with general site duties such as groundwork, preparation, tidying, and manual labour when not operating machinery.
  • Work closely with site supervisors and other team members to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of work completed and equipment use.

Required Skills & Experience

  • CSCS Card (Mandatory)
  • Valid CPCS or NPORS Excavator Operator qualification (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience operating 360 excavators in a construction or civil engineering environment.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and assist with general labouring duties when required.
  • Good understanding of site safety and machinery operation procedures.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge to identify and report faults or maintenance needs.
  • Reliable, flexible, and proactive attitude towards work.
  • Driving licence preferred.

Work Hours

07:00 - 18:00 (Monday - Friday)

Job Types: Permanent, Temporary, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 12 months

Pay: £20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 55 per week
