PacBio is seeking an accomplished and highly motivated Field Applications Specialist (FAS) to lead technical and strategic support for key account customers across the UK and Middle East.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted technical advisor and strategic partner to key accounts, ensuring optimal utilization of PacBio's SMRT sequencing technology through advanced applications and workflow implementation. They will play a lead role in driving customer success, contributing to strategic account planning, and influencing product development through close collaboration with internal teams.
In addition to providing expert training and technical leadership, the FAS will mentor junior team members, represent PacBio at key scientific and commercial events, and proactively identify opportunities for technology adoption and expansion.
The ability to communicate and interact with customers both post and pre-sales, with sales colleagues and engineers, to interact with internal development teams, product management, and marketing, are essential aspects of this role. The candidate will be working in a fast-paced commercial environment, interacting with customers, scientists and engineers from a wide variety of backgrounds. The position is field-based and the candidate will be part of a local commercial team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide advanced technical and strategic support of the SMRT sequencing workflow and its applications to key customers in the UK and Middle East.
- Lead customer enablement by designing and delivering comprehensive training programs, workshops, and technology updates.
- Drive and increase instrument utilization to achieve commercial targets.
- Address technical needs at key customer accounts to achieve strategic commercial targets.
- Feedback and collaborate with internal development teams to develop tailored solutions.
- Perform troubleshooting and employ customer management skills to effectively resolve or overcome technical challenges.
- Contribute to account planning and management as part of local commercial team and in line with a regional strategy.
- Deliver high quality presentations of our technologies and their applications to external audiences in a competitive environment.
- Ensure successful completion of key consumable projects and pilot.
- Communicate and coordinate within cross functional teams to ensure successful completion of beta tests and implement early access programs of new products and protocols.
- Mentor and support new team members to build technical excellence within the regional applications team.
- The position requires the candidate to be home-based and domiciled within UK, preferably in the Cambridge area.
- Ability to access a major airport easily for EMEA travel is mandatory.
- EMEA wide travel 50% time or more, with occasional visits to headquarters in California. Regular visits to our London office are expected.
Personal Skills
- Excellent command / high proficiency in spoken and written English. Proficiency in an additional European language would be useful.
- Excellent customer-facing communication skills both in pre- and post-sales contexts.
- Highly motivated and proven ability to work independently, e.g. in a home office-based position.
- Comfortable engaging with customers in the EMEA region and with PacBio teams in Europe and the United States.
- Familiar with the sales process and used to develop account strategies.
- Ability to build strong and lasting customer relationships.
- Ability to work in a strong team driven and highly performing organization.
- Ability to work in a fast paced and growing work environment. Highly self-organized and responsive.
Technical Skills
- Minimum of a Master's degree, Ph.D. preferred, in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related Life Science field.
- 3+ years of experience in a field applications support role (both, pre- and post-sales) in the EMEA region.
- Familiar and used to working through CRM tools.
- Proficiency in conducting scientific presentations to external audiences.
- Experience in project management and account management.
- Very experienced in conducting wet lab trainings, and in implementation of DNA sequencing instruments and assays in a lab environment.
- Scientific experience in molecular genetics, molecular biology and laboratory techniques.
- Hands-on experience in workflow of next-generation DNA sequencing and / or single molecule sequencing is a requirement.
- Strong troubleshooting abilities.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools to analyze next-generation sequencing data would be a benefit, knowledge of bioinformatics tools of single molecule sequencing data (SMRT analysis) would be ideal.
- Experience in a diagnostic or regulated work environment would be a benefit.
- Valid driver's license.
