At The University of Law, we are passionate about making a difference through education and access to justice. Our Pro Bono Service provides vital legal support to individuals and communities while offering our students invaluable opportunities to develop their legal and professional skills.
We are seeking a Pro Bono Co-ordinator to join the team on a part-time basis (28 hours per week) to lead the design and delivery of an engaging, innovative and fully online pro bono programme that meets the diverse needs of our online student community.
About the Role
This is a unique opportunity for a qualified solicitor with a passion for clinical legal education and widening access to justice. The successful candidate will take ownership of creating, managing and evaluating our online pro bono offer, ensuring that students can meaningfully engage with real-world legal work, regardless of their location.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues across campuses, external partners and professional bodies to ensure compliance, share best practice and develop new initiatives. As a Supervising Solicitor, you will oversee student legal work, ensuring high professional standards, client care and full regulatory compliance.
This is a home-based role offering flexibility and the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the learning experience of our online law students.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver a comprehensive online pro bono programme accessible to all online students.
- Supervise students undertaking pro bono legal work, providing feedback, training and support to develop their legal and professional skills.
- Ensure compliance with SRA and FCA regulations, GDPR, and the University's internal quality standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners including law firms, chambers, courts, in-house legal teams and third-sector organisations.
- Monitor and evaluate programme performance through student feedback, data analysis and regular reporting.
- Promote pro bono activity across the University community and within the wider profession.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Employability Service to deliver national initiatives, workshops and events.
- Contribute to the University's strategic aims by providing an exceptional experience for students and external stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
- Qualified solicitor (eligible to practise, with indemnity insurance provided by the University).
- Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience.
- Proven ability to design and deliver effective pro bono or legal education programmes.
- Strong understanding of applied legal research and supervision.
- Excellent communication, organisation and IT skills (including Microsoft Office and Teams).
- Ability to work autonomously, meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Commitment to the values of access to justice and student development.
- Experience of teaching or mentoring would be desirable but not essential
Why join Us?
On top of a starting salary of £44,000 (pro-rated for part-time) we provide a generous annual leave entitlement of 30 days and there's a rewards package that includes:
- Private Medical Scheme and Life Assurance
- Contributory Pension Scheme
- Training and Qualifications (including Course Sponsorship/Fee Discount)
- Season Ticket Loans and Student Discounts
At The University of Law, you will work alongside other like-minded professionals who are passionate about driving innovation in higher education and delivering successful outcomes for our students.
This role will close on Monday 3rd November at 12pm.
Be part of a diverse and inclusive community
We are committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population. We actively seek to increase representation across all backgrounds and identities, and we provide support and adjustments throughout the recruitment process.
