As a Night Porter, you'll be the reassuring presence that ensures our residents have a safe, secure, and welcoming environment. You'll respond to emergencies with confidence, provide practical support when needed, and keep our buildings safe and tidy through the night.
Job purpose:
Night Porters are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for our residents. They are responsible for coordinating support for residents throughout the night, being aware of each resident's needs and circumstances and responding to any emergencies that may arise in a calm and timely manner.
Duties and responsibilities:
· To work alongside another member of YMCA Staff (Hostel) or a member of concierge (Nomad) to maintain the security of the service throughout the shift.
· To report any defects in line with procedures, checking all floors regularly through the night to ensure that service users are safe. To complete building check records accordingly.
· To deal with the immediate support needs of clients as appropriate, providing crisis intervention where necessary, following up with relevant paperwork.
· To carry out lock ups, including checking emergency lighting and listening out for undue noises.
· To a maintenance form and record on Inform (database/ management system).
· To carry out room checks to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents.
· Provide a welcoming, accessible reception service for clients and other callers. As part of this covering a range of reception tasks, including dealing with phones, all other reception enquiries.
· To support colleagues in diffusing difficult or dangerous situations and to summon outside assistance when necessary.
· To ensure residents adhere to curfew times, where appropriate.
· To challenge disruptive or unacceptable behaviour in a sympathetic and assertive way, balancing the needs of the individual with responsibilities for the safety of the service, being prepared to evict residents if necessary.
· To issue behaviour warnings in line with YMCA Lincolnshire's policy.
· To assess factors which could impact on the safety of clients or others, and deliver relevant support where possible.
· To ensure that any clients using the smoking area are doing so in a safe way and that it is checked regularly during the night.
· To be responsible for First Aid, Health and Safety within the Centre whilst on duty and report any problems to the Hostel/Nomad Manager.
· To observe the requirements of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Mental Health Act 1983.
