Location: Doncaster Deaf Trust
Basis: Part time
Contract Type: Permanent post
Contractual Hours: 21 hours per week (flexible hours, worked over three days)
Annual Leave: Term time only
We have an exciting opportunity for a Clerk to the Board of Trustees and Governors to join our team at Doncaster Deaf Trust.This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in a values-driven organisation that supports children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
About the Role
The Doncaster Deaf Trust, Clerk to the Board, will be experienced, detail oriented and able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the Board, Governors and sub committees. Provide advice to the governing body on governance, constitutional and procedural matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Administrative and organisational support.
- Guidance to ensure the board works in compliance with the appropriate legal and regulatory framework and understands the potential consequences for non-compliance.
- Advice on procedural matters relating to the operation of the board.
- Advising the board on its core functions and Department for Education (DfE) governance advice, including the Governance Handbook.
- Advising the governing board on relevant legislation and procedural matters where necessary before, during and after meetings.
- Knowing where to access appropriate legal advice, support and guidance, and where necessary seeking advice and guidelines from third parties on behalf of the governing board.
- Facilitating new governor induction and ensuring they have access to appropriate documents, including any agreed code of conduct.
- Drafting minutes of meetings, indicating who is responsible for any agreed actions with timescales, and circulate as agreed with the governing board.
- Maintain records of governing board correspondence.
- Anticipating issues which may arise, and drawing these matters to the chair's attention, proposing recommendations.

What We're Looking For
- Minimum GCSE Level 4 or equivalent in English and Maths (or equivalent experience)
- Experience of working in a similar role as a clerk to the board of Trustees or a board of governors for a minimum of 3 years.
- Knowledge of governance within an educational or charitable setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience of producing high quality minutes, agendas and working with senior professionals to undertake full secretariat of board meetings.
- Experience of working with professionals and senior executives from all backgrounds.
- High level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly master other online platforms and software packages.
- Excellent organisational, planning and prioritisation skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise own workload
- Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, both written and verbal.
