Key Responsibilities

Cleaning and Hygiene

  • Carry out daily and scheduled cleaning duties across the home, including bedrooms, bathrooms, communal areas, dining rooms, corridors, and staff facilities.
  • Use appropriate cleaning products and methods in accordance with COSHH, IPC, and home policies.
  • Ensure high-touch areas and equipment (e.g. handrails, door handles) are regularly sanitised.

Laundry and Waste Management (if applicable)

  • Support laundry operations including handling, sorting, and returning clean laundry if required.
  • Empty bins and dispose of domestic and clinical waste in line with local protocols and infection control guidance.

Resident Respect and Privacy

  • Enter residents' rooms respectfully and maintain their dignity and privacy at all times.
  • Communicate politely and appropriately with residents and visitors.

Health and Safety

  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE, wet floor signage, and reporting hazards.
  • Store cleaning products securely and ensure equipment is maintained in good working order.
  • Participate in mandatory training including IPC, fire safety, and manual handling.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Liaise with care and kitchen staff to ensure cleaning is coordinated with resident routines.
  • Report maintenance or cleanliness issues promptly to the appropriate team member.
  • Attend staff meetings and support inspections or audits as required.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to high cleaning standards
  • Basic understanding of infection control, hygiene, and health & safety
  • Respectful and sensitive to the needs of older people and those living with dementia
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Previous cleaning or housekeeping experience in a care, hospital, or hospitality setting
  • COSHH or IPC training (or willingness to complete)
  • Understanding of the role of cleanliness in resident wellbeing and regulatory compliance

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
