Your role will include:

  • Carrying out vision, hearing, and growth checks for children starting school
  • Supporting the National Child Measurement Programme

You'll work independently in school settings, following School Health Nursing standards, while maintaining positive relationships with staff and encouraging participation in screening programmes. You'll manage your own workload, keep accurate records, maintain equipment, and submit data on time.

Alongside screening, you'll deliver health promotion activities and small-group interventions, as directed by School Nurses, and support the wider School Nursing Team when needed. You'll use IT systems to record activity, communicate effectively with colleagues and partner agencies, and ensure resources are used efficiently.

Safeguarding will remain central to your work, and you'll keep your knowledge up to date through training, meetings, and supervision. You'll also welcome student observers to the role, adapt to changing needs in the service, and play an active part in team discussions and quality improvement.
