Working Team Leader – Press/Forge

Sheffield

£18 p/hour + shift allowance

Rotating Shifts – mornings/afters/nights

Elevation Recruitment Group are supporting a leading manufacturer to recruit a hands-on Press Team Leader operating and tending machines that shape or form metal, as well as supporting a small team within the press cell. You'll take ownership for setting up, adjusting, and running a variety of presses to produce high-quality parts that meet customer specifications and company standards.

You'll also lead by example, ensuring your team works safely, follows procedures, and consistently delivers against production and quality targets.

Key Responsibilities of the Press Team Leader include:

  • Set up, operate, and monitor the press and supporting equipment within the cell
  • Managing furnace and forge operations from the control room
  • Performing visual and dimensional checks
  • Working on 1500T knockdown, trim, and punch operations
  • Ensuring furnaces are correctly loaded with control plans completed
  • Complete pre-shift checks (e.g., FLT, hoist, crane)
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards (5S)
  • Conduct and document preventative maintenance checks
  • Lead and coordinate a small team of press operators, ensuring smooth shift handovers and workload allocation
  • Monitor team performance and provide on-the-job training, coaching, and guidance
  • Support new starters with skills development and safe operating practices
  • Communicate production updates, safety messages, and improvement ideas to the wider management team

We're looking for Press/Forge Supervisors and Operators with the following skills & experience:

  • Experience in a forging or heavy pressing environment
  • Experience in leading and supporting a team, allocating and monitoring workload
  • Confident leading by example with a hands-on, practical approach
  • Familiar with computer control systems
  • Strong understanding of factory safety and quality standards
  • Organised, methodical, and able to work under pressure
  • Effective communicator at all levels, with good problem-solving skills
  • Able to interpret technical drawings and use measuring equipment (training available)
