Job Purpose:
The Assistant Coach will support the delivery of high-quality coaching and teaching across scheduled sessions, contributing to the academic and athletic development of students. This role involves preparing learning materials, assessing student performance, and providing both pastoral and academic support. The Assistant Coach will also play a key role in developing training plans, supporting match day operations, and promoting teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Duties Specific to the Post:
- To teach scheduled classes as requested.
- To prepare schemes of work and maintain such records as appropriate and directed.
- To contribute learning materials and assignments to the collective learning resources of the College.
- To undertake detailed assessment and maintain other records as required.
- To mark registers, monitor student attendance and complete registration requirements.
- To participate in the College's quality assurance procedures as directed.
- To contribute to the action planning of students and provide interim and end of year reports as requested.
- To provide pastoral support.
- To take responsibility for health and safety, equal opportunities and data protection within the scope of the post.
- To conduct research and analyse previous games to develop game plans, tactics, techniques, formations, and strategies.
- To organise and schedule trials and shortlist potential players.
- To determine individual player abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, and factor these into the gameplay and strategy sessions.
- To ensure the football field is available for practice sessions and that players show up on time.
- To establish rules and regulations and ensuring players are familiar with them.
- To organise team building sessions and activities off the field.
- To foster good sportsmanship in all team players, resolve disputes, and address bad behaviour in a timely manner.
- To identify exceptional players who might be scouted for scholarships and to play in professional leagues.
- To ensure all sports equipment is available and in working order.
- To undertake daily training sessions and manage/assist during match days.
- To participate in subject, course team and curriculum meetings and reviews, for which additional payment will be made.
General:
- Attend team meetings, College and external events as required.
- Ensure all data is handled in line with General Data Protection Regulations.
- Participating in the College appraisal scheme and arrangements made for further training and professional development.
- Promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and adhere and fully implement the colleges policies and procedures relating to EDI.
- Take personal responsibility for supporting, promoting and following all College policies in relation to health and safety, safeguarding, equality and diversity and data protection within the scope of the post.
- Committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, ensuring that this commitment is demonstrated in all aspects of the role as appropriate.

This job description will be reviewed annually during the appraisal process and will be varied in the light of the business needs of the college.
The postholder can be required to carry out any other duties consistent with the grade of the post, at any site on which the College may operate.
