A high-growth, compassionate financial services startup, focused on a global marketplace, is hiring for a foundational Backend Engineer. This is a mission-driven company, backed by top-tier investors, that is building a platform to provide essential and secure financial services to underserved communities.

The Role:
This is a critical, high-impact role where you will be at the forefront of designing and engineering the core systems that power the company's financial infrastructure. Working closely with the CTO and CEO, you will have the autonomy to build, architect, and scale a robust, secure, and resilient platform that serves tens of thousands of users in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, build, and take ownership of core infrastructure, including service architecture, reliability, security, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proactively identify and remediate weaknesses in code and infrastructure, ensuring all systems are secure, performant, and "regulation-ready."
  • Architect and scale high-throughput, low-latency financial systems that meet critical reliability expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with the product team to balance rapid feature iteration with long-term operational stability and compliance.
  • Champion a user-centred approach, building infrastructure that directly supports product performance and user trust.

What is being looked for:

  • Broad, hands-on expertise in backend architecture, databases, SRE principles (site reliability), and CI/CD.
  • A "security-first" mindset. Experience designing and operating robust, financial-grade systems in a regulated environment (fintech, banking, etc.) is a massive plus.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals: a passion for clean abstractions, scalability, and making thoughtful technical trade-offs.
  • The ability to make business-aware technical decisions that are guided by product and compliance needs.
  • Experience with (NestJS), TypeScript, AWS, and Kafka is a bonus, but strong engineering fundamentals are valued more than a specific framework.
