We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic School Business Manager to join the senior leadership team of our inclusive and community-focused school from April 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real impact on the strategic development and continued success of our school. The role is full time, term time only plus 2 weeks (41 weeks per annum)

Role Overview

As School Business Manager, you will work closely with the Headteacher and governors, leading and managing key areas of the school's operations, including:

  • Financial planning, monitoring, and budget management.
  • HR and personnel administration.
  • Premises and facilities management.
  • Health & Safety compliance.
  • Procurement and contract negotiation.
  • Strategic planning and support for school improvement.

You will play a vital role in shaping the long-term vision of the school, ensuring resources are used effectively to benefit all pupils.

Candidate Requirements for School Business Manager:

We are looking for a professional who:

  • Has proven experience in financial and operational management, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Holds a recognised school business management qualification (e.g. DSBM, CSBM) or equivalent.
  • Is friendly, highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understands school finance, HR, and compliance processes.
  • Is proactive, strategic, and solutions-focused.

The role:

  • Provide strategic leadership and management of the school's finances, budgets and procurement
  • Oversee HR processes including recruitment, payroll, contracts and staff compliance
  • Manage health & safety, premises and site maintenance in line with statutory requirements
  • Lead on GDPR, data protection and safeguarding compliance from an operational standpoint
  • Support the Headteacher and Governors in financial planning, forecasting and value-for-money analysis
  • Line-manage the admin and site teams, promoting a culture of high performance and professionalism
  • Prepare and present reports to the governing body and senior leadership team
  • Liaise with local authority, external partners and suppliers to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
  • Contribute to the strategic growth and sustainability of the school

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Proven experience as a School Business Manager or equivalent leadership role within education
  • Strong financial management skills and understanding of school funding and budget control
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confident using finance and MIS systems (e.g. IBC, Arbor or similar)
  • Ability to interpret data, manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure
  • Knowledge of HR, premises management, and health & safety legislation
  • A solutions-focused, flexible and proactive approach
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CSBM / DSBM / Accountancy / Business Management)
  • Passion for supporting education and making a tangible difference behind the scenes
