National Highways is excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Project Manager to join our Operations team in the South West, where you'll play a key role in shaping how we deliver Change and Business Improvement across the organisation.

You'll lead projects that transform the way we operate – from people and processes to systems and technology – ensuring that improvements land well and create lasting impact for our people and the communities we serve.

Your key focus will be providing programme office and change management oversight for the South West region's contribution to new Operations procurement frameworks (SDF2 and M&R2). As well as contract mobilisation and demobilisation activities, you'll support national projects spanning all six Operations regions, and regional change initiatives within the South West.

This role is based from our Bristol or Exeter office. You will:

• Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Regional Management Team, Programme Delivery Managers, Business Partners, suppliers, and across National Highways teams. Review and report on delivery performance, to agree solutions that resolve complex issues and to prepare for change stage gate assessments.
• Programme management and project controls – e.g., scope definition and management, schedule creation and management, risk management, performance reporting.
• Ensure National Highways reputation is maintained throughout delivery of projects by delivering best practice customer and stakeholder communications. Proactively manage interaction with internal and external project customers.
• Proactively identify and drive opportunities for improvements and implement required changes in own area of responsibility and beyond.
• Manage and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies and constraints associated with the portfolio, leading the development and implementation of solutions to overcome these.

About you.

• Proven programme and project management experience; related qualifications (e.g., MSP, APM, Prince2) are desirable.
• Delivery focused, with the ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines and have excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and influence stakeholder relationships towards positive outcomes.
• Strong presentation and communication skills, both in person and in writing. Ability to communicate persuasively to different audiences.
• Good understanding of business change; familiarity with the National Highways Change Management Framework (IDDDS) would be advantageous.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
