Job Title: Technical Document Controller & Reviewer – Building Safety
Location: Home-based (Remote) with occasional site visits and client meetings.
Contract: Temporary to Permanent.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Technical Document Controller with a sharp eye for detail and a background in construction or building control to join our team. This is a "novel" and high-value role designed to support clients in navigating the complex Building Safety Act (Gateway 1, 2, and 3).
You will be the engine behind our submission process, not just filing documents, but actively reviewing plans, reorganising technical data, and ensuring the "Golden Thread" of information is compliant and robust.
While primarily a home-based role requiring deep focus and independence, you will occasionally visit building sites and attend client meetings to collaborate with the wider project team.
What You Will Do
- Gateway Coordination: Manage the collation, review, and production of documentation required for Building Safety Regulator submissions.
- Technical Plan Review: Review architectural drawings and technical plans to identify common Building Regulations and Warranty issues (e.g layout compliance) before they become problems.
- Data Reorganisation: Take disorganized technical information and restructure it into compliant formats, ensuring nothing is missing for the Safety Case.
- AI-Assisted Research: Use AI tools to research regulatory issues, summarize complex reports, and draft documentation efficiently.
- BIM Coordination: Apply your understanding of BIM (Building Information Modelling) principles to navigate models and ensure data meets information requirements.
- Process Improvement: Adapt to and learn new software platforms quickly, constantly looking for ways to streamline how we manage data.
Who We Are Looking For
Technical Background & Education
- Education: Degree educated in a ideally relevant field (Construction, Engineering, Architecture) or possessing equivalent technical experience.
- Strong Regulatory Knowledge: You must have a working knowledge of the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and Warranty standards (e.g., NHBC, Premier). You should be able to look at a plan and spot common technical omissions.
- Sector Experience: Experience in Building Control, Technical Architecture, or Design Coordination is highly preferred. Ability to assist others in training preferred.
- Process Awareness: Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BS EN ISO 19650 and being able to explain how you have applied these standards in your previous roles will be a key to successful application.
- Solution-Focused: You find a way to make things work, even with limited instructions.
- Tenacious: You are persistent and independently motivated to get the job done, regardless of obstacles.
Skills & Capabilities
- Digital Agility: You are tech-savvy and can learn new software and processes at speed. You have an appreciation of BIM processes and Common Data Environments (CDEs).
- Efficiency: You have strong administrative skills, including the ability to touch-type and manage files with speed and precision.
- Research & AI: You are comfortable using AI tools to assist with independent research and drafting. You don't wait to be told the answer; you go and find it.
- Communication: You are confident dealing with clients and technical teams, both in writing and in person.
Mobility & Logistics
- Travel: You are willing and able to travel occasionally for site inspections and in-person client meetings across the UK.
Why This Role?
- Hybrid Flexibility: Enjoy the focus of working from home for the majority of your week, with the variety of occasional site and client visits.
- Technical Growth: This is not a standard admin role; you will utilize your technical knowledge to perform plan checks and compliance reviews.
- Cutting Edge: Work at the forefront of the Building Safety Act, using modern AI and BIM workflows to drive industry change.
Diversity & Inclusion Note
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment. We encourage applications from candidates with diverse technical backgrounds. If you have strong experience in Building Control or Technical Admin but don't tick every single box (e.g., BIM), please still apply—we value the ability to learn quickly above all else.
