Overview

Hardgate Café is a small but extremely busy local café in Clydebank, known for friendly service and great food. We're looking for an experienced, reliable Front of House Assistant to work closely with our cook and keep everything running smoothly. This is a hands-on role where you'll prepare food, serve customers, and manage the front of house. Perfect for someone who thrives under pressure and enjoys a fast-paced café environment.

Duties

  • Prepare all front-of-house items including salads, toasties, paninis, cold rolls, teas, and coffees

  • Serve customers in a friendly, professional manner and ensure they feel welcome

  • Give menus, take orders, and check if customers need anything else

  • Handle cash and card payments accurately

  • Assist with counting up and balancing at the end of the day

  • Keep tables, counters, and displays clean, tidy, and well-stocked throughout service

  • Work closely with the cook to ensure smooth, quick service during busy periods

  • Maintain high food hygiene and safety standards at all times

  • Take initiative and stay organised, especially when working independently

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Previous café or hospitality experience is essential

  • Barista experience preferred but not essential — training can be provided

  • Confident preparing food and drinks in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong multitasking and communication skills

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work well under pressure

  • Friendly, approachable, and comfortable working mostly on your own (with one cook)

Hours

  • Flexible part-time or full-time hours available

  • Must be available for weekday and weekend shifts
