Bournemouth, Bournemouth, United Kingdom LINWOOD SCHOOL Full time £30,024 - £338,143 per year

Salary range is based on 27 hours per week, term time + INSET days (39 weeks per year)

The pay range for this role will be £30,024 - £33,143 from 1st December 2025.

We're excited to welcome new colleagues into our workforce under a refreshed pay, terms and conditions framework launching on 1 December 2025. To ensure fairness and consistency for everyone, all new appointments will start at the bottom of the pay band. This approach reflects our commitment to equity across the organisation and aligns with the clear rules we've applied for existing staff as part of the transition. While the starting salary is fixed, we believe this role offers a fantastic opportunity to grow, contribute meaningfully, and be part of a forward-thinking team.

About Role

An exciting and rewarding opportunity to join our team of Learning & Employment Support Workers has arisen. Working within the CHI team to deliver a unique programme for young people with learning difficulties which combines education and on-the-job training, your role will be to support, encourage and role model expectations within the workplace as well as providing a supportive and positive environment for learning.

The CHI course is an accredited course designed to enhance students' employability prospects by providing a blend of intensive 'classroom' based learning and purposeful, on-the-job training and work shadowing. More details of the CHI curriculum can be found on our website Linwood School | Belong. Believe. Achieve.

The CHI project supports students with a variety of additional learning difficulties who are based in Bargates Christchurch, the Marsham Court Hotel and Tesco Riverside, Bournemouth. Students also participate in work placements in a variety of other workplaces where they need further development and training. In addition, the role of the Learning & Employment Support Worker is within the classroom assisting learning as well as visiting and supporting students in these workplaces. Applicants will therefore need to hold a range of GCSE's in English and Maths or equivalent as a minimum.

The successful applicant must have a clear understanding of excellent workplace practice and be able to model this to our students to benefit and enhance their learning.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Applicants must be able to assess students' development on placements and work with the CHI team and businesses to ensure that progress is being made and any difficulties passed on to the relevant staff to be addressed. Therefore, some flexibility is required in this role; the ability to adapt at short notice as well as being able to work under pressure would be an advantage.

A genuine occupational requirement exists for the successful candidate to hold a full driving licence and hold business insurance for this purpose. Driving and vehicle documentation will be checked on appointment and annually thereafter.

In addition to the flexible benefits provided BCP Council, Linwood School also provides:

  • An Employee Assistance Programme to support staff wellbeing.
  • Easy to access Eyecare Scheme.
  • Paid after-school training sessions to support staff development.
  • Career development.
  • Long Service Awards

From 1 December 2025, the BCP Council refreshed Pay and Reward package comes into effect, bringing a new approach to how they recognise and reward roles across the Council. You can find out more about the new terms and conditions by contacting the Linwood School HR office.

Linwood School is working in partnership with the mental health charity Mind and we are proud to have been awarded a Silver Award for the work we are doing in school to promote positive mental health, support staff and reduce stigma. We seek and encourage applications from individuals from a diverse background who will come and work with us and become part of our Linwood family, supportive of our school values whilst providing an excellent an inclusive service to our students, ensuring they continue to feel part of the school community in everyday activities.

If you would like further information about the role of a Learning and Employment Support Worker, please speak to Sharon Jenkin, Assistant Headteacher and CHI Lead on

Linwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and the successful applicant will be required to have an enhanced DBS check as well as an overseas criminal records check, if worked or lived outside the UK within the past 10 years. Offers of employment are also subject to satisfactory references, health and right to work checks.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020. If the role is exempt, certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected', so they do not need to be disclosed, and if they are disclosed, we cannot take them into account.

All Linwood School staff are expected to adhere to our policies and procedures in respect of safeguarding and child protection, including Keeping Children Safe in Education and guidance for adults working with children and young people in an education setting.
