The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Senior Engineer to join our established Building Engineering team in London, working on technically challenging projects in the science and healthcare sectors across the UK and internationally.
This role offers the chance to take a leading position within our Public Health & Plumbing team, contributing to the strategic direction and development of the discipline. You'll be part of a collaborative environment where innovation, technical excellence, and mentoring are at the heart of what we do.
As a Senior / Principal Public Health Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering complex science and healthcare projects,, providing technical leadership from early concept design through to construction and handover. You'll be responsible for translating client requirements into clear, actionable strategies, making informed technical decisions, and ensuring high-quality outcomes across all stages of project delivery.
In this role, you will lead the design and technical delivery of public health services on large-scale, multidisciplinary projects. Acting as the discipline lead, you will contribute to strategic discussions within the group and represent the team in client and architect engagements. Your expertise will help shape innovative, sustainable solutions while maintaining the highest standards of technical excellence.
You will also support the development of a high-performing engineering team by mentoring colleagues, identifying skill gaps, and contributing to recruitment efforts. Sharing knowledge, offering constructive feedback, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement will be central to your approach. Additionally, you'll be involved in long-term planning, resource forecasting, and enhancing the reputation of the Public Health & Plumbing team both internally and externally.

Is this role right for you?
We're Looking For Candidates Who
- Are Degree qualified in engineering or a related discipline, with Chartered Engineer status and extensive experience leading public health engineering on large-scale, complex science and healthcare projects.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of science & healthcare specific public health systems, including but not limited to water treatment technologies, water quality management, and medical/laboratory gas systems, with a strong grasp of relevant legislation, codes, and design guidance.
- Have proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary teams, mentoring staff, and driving technical strategies and research initiatives, while ensuring high performance and project delivery excellence.
- Possess strong commercial awareness with experience managing project scope, programme constraints, and financial success, alongside the ability to prepare and present compelling bids to clients.
- Have excellent communication and report writing skills, with a collaborative and creative approach, enthusiasm for sustainable design and digital transformation (including BIM), and a commitment to implementing UN SDGs at project level.
