This role:

We are looking for a Field Supervisor to come and join our growing Jointing team.

This will be someone who challenges what we do daily and thrives working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines helping us build for the future.

An idea of what you'll be doing:

Supervise jointing teams, taking on direct line management activities and supporting development.

  • Act as the point of escalation for jointing teams
  • Recognise danger, suspend any work activities until safe and liaise with the appropriate person(s) to create a safe workplace
  • Provide technical support for all operational teams
  • Review associated documentation and ensuring formal risk assessments are being completed appropriately
  • Carry out quality and safety audit
  • Carry out works within the public adopted highway (having correct qualifications to do so)
  • Support on site works as required and provide suitable feedback to project management
  • Review and lead work instructions through plans, drawings and written or verbal communication
  • Carry out works within confined spaces using established safety procedures
  • Carry out jointing works in accordance with safe working practices and in compliance with the adopting DNO's codes of practice
  • To excavate cable trenches and joint bays using hand held tools and equipment
  • To ensure the jointing van is kept tidy and that replenishment of consumables is carried out as necessary
  • To allow for entry into substations for jointing, installation and standby duties
  • Contribute to the structure of the joining teams, including upskilling and recruitment activities.

Requirements

You'll have a proven track record of:

  • Proficient in the use of Productivity and Collaboration Software such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint etc. across multiple platforms such as smart phones, tablets, laptops etc.
  • Excellent communication, including ability to adapt communication styles and outstanding listening skills with ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to use own initiative as well as work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Have a thorough knowledge of cable jointing procedures (up to 132kV) highly desirable
  • Able to interpret mains records
  • Good knowledge of Electricity Supply, Quality, Continuity Regulations
  • Excellent understanding of Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Strong understanding of COSHH
  • Strong attention to detail and timekeeping ability
  • Confident and able to demonstrate safe use of hydraulically operated plant and equipment

  • Full UK driving license (Maximum of 3 points)
  • Minimum 3 years' proven track record in supervising a team of Jointers
  • CSCS card or affiliated
  • NVQ Level 2 or City and Guilds 232 in Electrical Engineering
  • Recognised DNO/IDNO LV, LV live, 11KV and/or 33KV cable jointing training
  • Experienced with all types of HV cable terminations including 3 Core XLPE, Single Core Triplex, SWA, STA, PILC
  • Fitting experience would be an advantage
  • Fault finding experience
  • DNO/IDNO LV, LV live, 11KV and/or 33KV cable jointing authorisation(s)
  • Emergency First Aid at Work qualification
  • SPA Petrol Forecourt Card
  • NRSWA
  • Experience in working with an NDO or IDNO
  • Experience in leading a team
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes, including the anti-bribery policy, while adhering to the Environmental and Quality Management System in alignment with ISO standards and the requirements of the NERS accreditation.
