International Women's Initiative (IWI) is an organisation which raises awareness of the threats to the human rights of women across the globe and to promote and assist in the achievement of gender equality. Since 2012, IWI has worked to eradicate and educate on human rights violations against women. IWI's Director of Advocacy will lead a team and coordinate IWI's overall advocacy strategy, as well as identify, develop, and execute high-impact and game-changing campaigns that empower IWI supporters to achieve concrete victories. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Advocacy will work collaboratively with senior management to develop and implement strategies to broaden the impact of IWI's advocacy outreach, as well as oversee IWI's messaging and constituent services.
The Director of Advocacy will have a strong focus on building and maintaining relationships, and leading the project of creating infrastructure for this evolving branch of IWI. With the support from other staff, this position will: Create an advocacy team that will work to educate the public on women's human rights violations within the UK, as well as change and enforce policy to ensure that women within the UK are able to take advantage of their human rights; Participate in developing and implementing grassroots organising campaigns informed by the experiences of women whose rights have been violated; Develop programs for survivors, friends, family, and allies; Develop and usher implementation of a 24 hour UK wide hotline and associated trainings from a victim services framework which assists women with survivor empowerment by providing information on resources, including legal, mental and shelter assistance. The Survivor's Hotline you will oversee the providing of individual advocacy to survivors, managing and building the team of volunteer advocates that staffs the hotline, fundraising, and strategic planning.
Responsibilities
Conduct situation analysis through desk based research and analysis at individual country level (context specific) of on-going and future interventions funded by International Donors, National Governments, INGOs within the mandate of IWI's vision and mandate;
Monitoring and analysing relevant activity in the UK which are directly associated with women's human rights;
Providing strategic analysis and background for the development of IWI's annual policy agenda;
Developing and implementing strategy for advancing policy goals with key decision-makers within the UK government;
Organizing the efforts of IWI's advocacy team and other staff who monitor and act on the national policy agenda;
Developing policy proposals and advocating them individually and in conjunction with allies;
Communicating with and briefing lobbyists, members of Parliament, their staff and agency officials through in-person meetings, written communications, and phone calls;
Briefing IWI's Board, advocacy partners and allies on policy matters through written and electronic media.

Time Commitment: The minimum commitment is an average of 10 hours per week including a weekly one on one meeting with supervisor.
