Support Worker for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Young People

About the Role
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Support Workers to join our team supporting Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC) aged 16–18 within a semi-independent accommodation setting. The role is focused on safeguarding, emotional support, cultural sensitivity, and helping young people develop essential life skills as they transition toward independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support, guidance, and supervision to young people in the home.
- Build trusting, professional relationships with UASC, promoting their emotional wellbeing and cultural identity.
- Support young people with developing independence skills including cooking, budgeting, cleaning, travel training, and accessing education/employment.
- Assist with key work sessions, completing support plans, risk assessments, incident reports, and daily logs.
- Safeguard young people in line with organisational and statutory requirements, raising concerns immediately.
- Support young people to attend health appointments, legal meetings, Home Office interviews, and other important commitments.
- Promote inclusion and help young people integrate safely into the local community.
- Work collaboratively with social workers, interpreters, education providers, and external agencies.
- Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming accommodation, modelling positive behaviour at all times.
- Contribute to rota cover, ensuring 24/7 support is consistently provided.
- Updating support plans and risk assessments under the supervision of management.
Requirements
- Experience supporting vulnerable young people (care leavers, UASC, youth homelessness, residential, supported accommodation or similar).
- Understanding of the challenges faced by asylum-seeking young people, including trauma, displacement, cultural differences, and language barriers.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and ability to follow procedures.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to remain calm, patient, and empathetic.
- Ability to complete clear, accurate written records and reports.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent; full driving licence; experience working with interpreters or multi-agency teams.
