Account Assistant

Broughton Plant Hire & Sales are looking to recruit a full-time permanent accounts assistant working as part of a team in a very busy and fast-paced plant & tool hire depot based in Brentwood.
This role will provide administrative and basic accounting support to the finance team, ensuring the smooth and accurate handling of the company's day-to-day financial activities
Working hours are Monday to Friday 8 am to 5.00 pm office based only
Main duties and responsibilities
- Process the full-cycle payroll process for all weekly employees, ensuring timely and accurate payment.
- Administer and process employee benefits and annual P11D returns, ensuring accurate reporting of expenses and benefits in kind.
- Manage company pension contributions, ensuring compliance with pension regulations and liaising with the pension provider as needed.
- Process and verify employee expenses and company credit card expenses, handling reimbursements and ensuring adherence to expense policies.
- Prepare and carry out weekly/monthly payment runs
- Produce any relevant credit notes
- Assist with month-end reporting and journal entries
- Reconcile various accounts to ensure financial accuracy
- Support the smooth running with credit control, Purchase ledger and cash allocation.
- Assist with internal and external audit requirements
Key Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Proven experience in a similar account assistant or finance role
- Showcase excellent organisational abilities alongside strong communication skills that enable you to interact effectively with colleagues at all levels.
- Solid understanding of UK payroll legislation, including statutory payments, benefits, and pension requirements.
- Experience using payroll software and strong Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
- Possess the ability to use your own initiative when faced with new challenges or changing priorities within the finance team.
- Be self-motivated with a willingness to learn from others while adapting quickly to different tasks as required by management.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring correct payroll calculations and compliance.
