About the Scottish SPCA

As Scotland's animal welfare charity, we have been on-hand to protect animals and prevent cruelty since 1839 – that's over 185 years of creating a better world for all animals. We've grown to become a national charity which celebrates the strength of the human-animal bond and enriches the lives of animals and people. We are Scotland's animal champions.

What does an Animal Rescue Officer do?

Our Animal Rescue Officers are there to provide a responsive, caring and compassionate service when responding to rescue calls as directed by the Animal Helpline team.

Responding to a wide range of emergency calls such as sick or injured birds and small mammals to abandoned seal pups, the Animal Rescue Officers are often the first face to face point of contact for the public to asses situations and take the appropriate humane action for the animal.

Where it is deemed appropriate, the Animal Rescue Officer is also responsible for the transport of animals to our wildlife facilities for further treatment.

Working with many different types of animals, no day will ever look the same.

The Scottish SPCA aim to rehabilitate and release as many animals as possible back into the wild.

  • Promote the work of the Society and membership to the public where appropriate.
