Americold Whitchurch is currently recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to support the Finance team in delivering accurate and timely financial information to the wider business and Group. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting, excellent attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Role Overview

As an Accounts Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting the month-end close process, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and external reporting requirements. You will work closely with the wider finance team to maintain accurate financial records and contribute to the smooth running of daily accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparation and upload of audit documentation.
  • Submit Office for National Statistics (ONS) surveys as required.
  • Load employee expenses onto the banking system.
  • Submit weekly cash flow reports to Group Finance.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) controls.
  • Prepare and submit post-month-end reports including AR/AP and fixed assets.
  • Post month-end journals such as:
  • Advanced billed sales
  • Bonus accruals
  • Intercompany reconciliations
  • Depreciation
  • Prepare credit card accruals and post related invoices.
  • Calculate and post bad debt provisions.
  • Prepare additional journals required for month-end close.
  • Analyse the Profit & Loss account monthly to ensure accuracy and correct account postings.
  • Undertake any other fair and reasonable tasks or duties as assigned by your manager or other senior staff.
Working Pattern

Monday to Friday

Standard Business Hours (9am – 5pm)

Requirements
  • 1–2 years' experience in a relevant accounting environment.
  • Actively studying towards an accountancy qualification (preferred).
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
