Reporting to the Senior IT Manager, the Junior Onsite IT Desktop Support Engineer is responsible for the maintenance of the IT Service Desk; resolving issues, fixing faults, documenting calls, prioritizing as required, and escalating necessary calls to third line, to ultimately oversee the successful and expedient resolution of all calls. The Onsite Desktop Support Engineer will have excellent interpersonal skills and an organized approach, with the ability to adapt and respond to ad-hoc queries in a timely manner. You will be based in St Ives Cambridgeshire working 5 days a week onsite, (with a min of 4 days in the office, 5 days is strongly preferred), to give a talent the job to learn and develop an IT career.

In this role, a typical day will look like:

  • Technical Support & Troubleshooting: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hardware/software issues on computers, laptops, peripherals, and networks—both onsite and remotely. Escalate complex problems when necessary.
  • System Maintenance & Deployment: Build and deploy new laptops, test application compatibility, perform software updates, and assist with maintaining infrastructure (servers, networks, systems).
  • Service Desk & User Support: Manage and resolve service desk calls, administer user accounts, document and follow IT processes, and communicate effectively with users while ensuring SLA compliance.
  • Asset & Lifecycle Management: Track and maintain IT inventory, manage hardware lifecycle (acquisition to disposal), support office moves, and coordinate End-of-Life processes with relevant teams.
  • Process Compliance & Collaboration: Maintain accurate records and documentation, ensure procedural compliance, and collaborate with IT, procurement, and legal teams to support overall IT operations.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Up to 3 years of experience in IT support, 1st/2nd Line roles, or SLA-driven service desks
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with knowledge of Windows OS, Active Directory, Office 365, and tools like Intune, CrowdStrike, or SCCM
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build strong user relationships
  • Bachelor's degree in IT or related field preferred; fluent in English with French as a plus
  • Must work onsite in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, have a valid UK work permit and driving license; occasional weekend work required
