Job Description: Centre Events and Lettings Coordinator

Hours: 16 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Start Date: TBC

Location: Haddington Bridge Centre, 11 Poldrate, Haddington EH41 4DA

Rate: £15/hour – self-employed

Contract: 12-month self-employed contract, with potential to extend subject to funding

Reporting to: Board of Trustees

The Haddington Bridge Centre is a company limited by guarantee and a registered Scottish charity, committed to supporting lifelong learning and community development. Governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees, the Centre benefits from a small but effective staff team who manage day-to-day operations including handling enquiries, coordinating bookings, and ensuring the smooth running of activities and services.

As a vibrant community education hub, the Centre hosts a diverse programme of educational, recreational, and social opportunities tailored to meet the needs of both young people and older adults across Haddington and the wider East Lothian area. The Centre plays a vital role in fostering inclusion, wellbeing, and personal development through accessible and engaging activities.

In addition to hosting a variety of community-led initiatives and events, the Haddington Bridge Centre directly manages three key projects that reflect its commitment to youth engagement and creative learning:

  • Motorcycle Project – A hands-on initiative for young people that promotes mechanical skills, bike riding, and personal responsibility among young people.
  • Music Project – A creative outlet offering access to instruments, recording equipment, and mentorship, encouraging musical exploration and collaboration.
  • Youth Club Provision – Regular youth club sessions that provide a safe, supportive environment for socialising, learning, and building confidence.

The Centre continues to evolve in response to community needs, working in partnership with local organisations, schools, and public services to deliver impactful programmes and foster a sense of belonging and empowerment.

Role Purpose

This position plays a vital role in generating income through community-focused events and optimising the use of Centre spaces. The Co-ordinator will strengthen community engagement, conduct research, build relationships with user groups, and help shape future programming in line with local needs.

This is a pilot project, with potential for contract extension subject to future funding.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising and Events

  • Plan and deliver Centre-based events aimed at community engagement and fundraising
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers to assist with events.

Centre Lettings

  • Maximise use of Centre spaces by securing bookings from appropriate community groups
  • Identify and attract groups aligned with the Centre's mission (social welfare, recreation, leisure).

Community Engagement

  • Consult with current users and residents in the Haddington and Lammermuir area to explore interests and needs. Using social media, surveys (face to face and online). Volunteers could be recruited to undertake these tasks
  • Research local area of what activities are available and spaces available to hire
  • Collaborate with the Community Development Officer where necessary.

Administration and Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate statistical and financial records
  • Manage own administrative tasks, including communications, calendar planning, and reporting (access to computer equipment will be provided)
  • Present reports at quarterly Board meetings

· Attend regular meetings with the Community Development Officer and liaise with other centre staff. A designated Trustee will be appointed as Line Manager.

Experience and Key Skills

  • Proven experience in event organising and delivery
  • Strong leadership and motivational abilities
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Experience of working with volunteers and diverse communities
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload
  • Competent in standard software packages and data interpretation
