Primary Teaching Assistant (Behavioural, Emotional and Academic Support) – Islington
Start Date: October 2025
Are you a motivated and adaptable graduate eager to gain experience supporting children with a range of needs?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Primary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Islington from October 2025. You will work with pupils aged 4–11, supporting their learning, behaviour and emotional development throughout the school day.
Primary Teaching Assistant: Role Overview
As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping children make progress in and out of the classroom. Working closely with pupils, teachers and support staff, you will provide consistent support to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups across core subjects
- Assisting with behaviour management and promoting positive routines
- Offering emotional support and helping children develop confidence and resilience
- Encouraging academic progress in line with each child's needs and learning style
- Building a strong understanding of effective support strategies in a primary setting
This role is ideal for graduates considering careers in primary teaching, educational psychology, child development or other education-related fields.
Primary Teaching Assistant: Candidate Requirements
- A minimum of a 2:1 degree from a UK university
- Previous experience working with children (paid or voluntary) is desirable
- A patient, empathetic and resilient personality
- A genuine interest in supporting the wellbeing and progress of young children
