Derby, Derby, United Kingdom EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY Full time £40,000 - £60,000 per year

We are proud to be One Team at East Midlands Railway (EMR). We are passionate about keeping people safe, delighting our customers, doing the right thing and putting customers at the heart of our sustainable railway for the East Midlands. With over 2,600 employees, our people are the reason we are so successful. Nine times accredited as a Top Employer, we value our people and are dedicated to making sure that everybody feels empowered to bring their authentic self to work.

At East Midlands Railway (EMR), we are proud to serve over 30 million passengers every year — and none of it would be possible without the dedication and expertise of our people. We are now seeking a Occupational Safety Change Business Partner to join our Safety team, based in Derby.

At EMR we want to proactively embrace diversity across our workforce and recognise that we are under-represented in terms of females and ethnic minority groups. We're therefore taking positive steps to promote a positive and inclusive culture; we welcome applications from those that identify with these groups to better represent our communities.

The Role

As a Safety Change Business Partner, you will provide specialist occupational safety expertise across business change projects. You will support project teams in identifying, assessing and managing safety risks, ensuring all initiatives meet Safety Validation requirements.

A key part of your role will be facilitating HAZID workshops, supporting safety evidence preparation, and ensuring effective communication of Safety Management System (SMS) changes across EMR.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide project teams through the Safety Validation and change management process.
  • Support the design, delivery and ongoing development of Safety Validation approaches.
  • Identify safety risks associated with business change and advise on appropriate controls.
  • Lead and facilitate HAZID workshops with project leads and technical experts.
  • Produce practical deliverables to support implementation of safety controls.
  • Help gather evidence for Safety Validation Panel review.
  • Act as a safety business partner to the Projects team.
  • Support communication and engagement relating to SMS updates.
  • Promote sustainability and ensure work aligns with relevant environmental standards.

About You

  • Have a Level 3 Occupational Health & Safety qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong communication, coaching and influencing skills.
  • Experience with change management principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and lifecycle stages.
  • Proven experience facilitating HAZID workshops.
  • Able to build relationships, collaborate effectively and influence stakeholder groups.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of organisational challenges.

As well as a competitive salary, we'll also offer you:

  • An excellent defined benefit pension scheme
  • 32 days' holiday per year, rising to 34 after 2 years
  • Flexible working hours
  • Free First Class duty travel on the EMR network
  • Free standard leisure travel on the EMR network and Train Operating Companies under Transport UK & LNER
  • 75% discount on national leisure travel (inc partner and dependants)
  • Friends and Family discounted tickets on the EMR network
  • Various training opportunities
  • Employee benefits portal with access to generous discounts, Cycle 2 Work Scheme …and many more
