About the Role
Nottingham City Council Housing Services is seeking a proactive and detail-focused Building Safety Officer to support its Building Safety Team. You'll help deliver NCC's building safety agenda across a diverse housing portfolio throughout Nottingham. Your responsibilities will include managing safety documentation, developing building safety cases, and maintaining the "Golden Thread" of information to ensure full compliance with UK legislation and best practice.
You'll carry out inspections, monitor contractors, and ensure safety checks are completed in line with NCC's building safety policies. A key part of the role involves engaging with residents; providing updates, responding to concerns, and delivering safety-related training through forums, meetings, and workshops. You'll also support fire safety strategies, carrying out fire door checks, risk assessments, and permit-to-work systems, while working collaboratively with internal teams, external contractors, and emergency services.
This is a resident-focused role that requires excellent communication, organisational skills, and a strong understanding of building safety regulations. You'll be instrumental in promoting a culture of safety and compliance, ensuring our homes remain safe, secure, and well-maintained.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Suitable knowledge and understanding of relevant principles and technical standards, including relevant fire safety principles, for building safety and ability to co-ordinate and integrate these holistically, whilst maintaining professional competency to work on residential buildings and need to ensure continuing competence.
- Knowledge and demonstrable experience of maintaining and updating information systems, with the ability to maintain and update accurate data logging, numeric and photographic records in a digital environment
- Relevant experience and/or qualifications in relevant areas such as:
BIFM British Institute of Facilities Management / IWFM Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management
Fire risk assessments
Fire door inspections
Firestopping
Experience and understanding of the Fire Safety Act 2021 and Building Safety Act 2022
- Suitable knowledge and understanding of relevant standards, legislation, regulations, statutory guidance, standards of performance and ethical factors in co-ordinating safety throughout the life cycle of the building, particularly in high-rise buildings
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, alongside excellent communication skills, building rapport and delivering sometimes difficult messages to a diverse range of stakeholders, including tenants and leaseholders.
- Demonstrate teamworking ability and strong stakeholder engagement skills.
