Oxford City Council has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Surveyor to help deliver a wide range of disabled adaptations and housing solutions to make a positive outcome for older people, disabled adults and disabled children in our South & Vale Office in Didcot.

The role holder will be responsible for providing advice on adaptations, designing and specifying solutions, commissioning work, monitoring quality of work and providing technical advice to other professionals such as Case Workers and Occupational Therapists.

The role holder will manage their own caseload and work independently utilising best practice and technical knowledge to meet the demands of service users. The ability to be creative and solve problems on the spot is essential as this skill will be required daily.

Role responsibilities and main duties

Liaise with health care professionals to provide cost effective disabled adaptations.

Provide a point of contact for disabled and other grant and loan clients and advise on general grant and loan procedures and policies (by personal visits to the client's home

Undertake initial site visits as directed, either independently, or with Occupational Therapists and other support agencies as required), to assess suitability of property for adaptation, repair and improvements.

Assist clients in completing necessary application forms and test of resources.

Assess and process grant applications in accordance with the Councils policies and procedural requirements and applicable legislation.

Inspect works as required in connection with interim payments and to assess completion for final payment, and ensure a good standard of workmanship and value for money.

Liaise with building contractors over proposed adaptations

Update computer databases maintaining appropriate electronic records.

Provide advice and, when necessary, specifications, sketch plans and electronic plans for discussion and tendering if required.

Undertake as directed, initial and subsequent meetings and negotiations with contractors, surveyors, clients and health care professionals.

Act as Designer for Home Improvement Agency work and undertake contract meetings with clients and contractors as required.

Deal with constructional and other site problems with contractors and grant applicants. Assess the risks associated with problems and bring to the attention of the Team Manager any issues that may impact negatively on the client or damage the Council's reputation.

Co-ordinate grant-payments in accordance with Council policy and the Council's financial regulations.

Assist with the checking of administrative systems, progress reports, process grant approval documents and financial spread sheets.

Represent the Council and the service at internal and external meetings and training events, including writing and giving presentations.

Provide support and training to other team members as instructed in relation to technical matters and software applications.
