Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom MBDA Full time £18,000 - £45,000 per year

Electro-Mechanical Engineering - Level 6 Higher Degree Apprenticeship

MBDA is a leading defence organisation that is proud to support our Armed Forces in protecting our nations. We collaborate with governments to achieve a shared goal of defending our freedom.

Salary: £18,000 plus a £3,000 joining bonus

What we can offer you:

  • Fully funded qualification starting in September 2024

  • Fantastic site facilities, including subsidised meals and free car parking

  • Fully supported learning and development programme

  • Flexible working

  • 25 days annual leave (plus up to 15 days flexi leave) and additional study leave for exams

Hybrid working pattern: Where possible, we will seek to accommodate a blended approach to on-site and remote working, but this will depend on project requirements and the need for access to specific site facilities.

The Opportunity:

Join the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Radiation Effects (RE) department for a chance to play a fundamental role in bringing together MBDA's missile systems: supporting design and test of Missile systems and electronic equipment.

Our four-year programme for Electro-Mechanical Engineering Apprentices is a fantastic opportunity for you to join an accredited engineering scheme that has developed some of the leading engineering apprentices in the UK.

The EMC and RE department is like no other within MBDA. It sits within the Environmental Engineering and Facilities (EE&F) function and is split between a test team working hands on in our pioneering EMC Facility to simulate environments and also a highly skilled consultancy team that is embedded across all projects within MBDA to ensure good EMC practice & design.

  • Work in a technically challenging function.

  • Work amongst experienced test and systems EMC engineers.

  • Benefit from specific formal and informal training that will aid your personal development.

  • Gain hands-on experience with real test equipment.

  • Work on a range of products across all MBDA projects, which could include missiles and weapon systems.

Programme Structure

You will study towards a BEng (Hons) Electro-Mechanical Engineering at University Centre Weston for 4 years, which will be fully funded by MBDA. Your work week will consist of one day study leave to attend university, with the remaining four days being based within the EMC and RE department, as well as EE&F, and more general placements around many different areas of the business. You'll get lab experience within our EMC facility as well as the opportunity to influence the design of electronic equipment by working closely with design teams. You'll also have the opportunity to complete external placements outside of MBDA, with our external contractors and suppliers.

This will allow you to earn an academic and nationally recognised qualification whilst gaining hands on learning experience within a professional and friendly workplace.
