Northampton, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom Stantec UK Full time

We're looking for an enthusiastic Transport Planner to join our busy and well-established Transport Planning team in Northampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong understanding of transport planning—particularly development planning—and an interest in supporting a variety of public sector schemes.

As part of our team, you'll contribute to high-profile projects across Northampton, including major Sustainable Urban Extensions, the SEGRO Northampton Strategic Rail Freight Interchange, and the University of Northampton's Waterside Campus. You'll also have the chance to work on exciting developments further afield, such as Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit, Alconbury Weald, Aylesbury Woodlands, Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, and Rushden Lakes Shopping Centre.

Our office is based in the village of Blisworth, near Junction 15 of the M1, where we've been located since 2003. It's a welcoming and collaborative working environment set in a picturesque location close to the Grand Union Canal.

About the role

You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects—from large, strategic land development proposals to smaller sites, as well as strategic infrastructure and public sector commissions. This role offers an excellent platform to develop your transport planning skills within a wider multidisciplinary environment.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Support the technical delivery of transportation projects

  • Prepare Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and a range of transport studies

  • Undertake associated technical and analytical work

  • Collaborate with clients, design teams, local authorities and the public

  • Support and mentor junior team members

This position offers significant opportunities for career progression and personal development, supported by mentoring, training and guidance towards professional qualifications.

About You
  • Degree qualified in transportation, geography, engineering, or a related discipline

  • Understanding of the planning system with experience in Transport Assessments, Travel Planning, junction modelling/analysis and relevant software packages

  • Strong numerical skills with experience managing budget and quality at project level

  • Ideally working towards a professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Transport Planning Professional)

Why Join Us?
  • Our People Culture: A friendly, supportive and collaborative team

  • Awards: Stantec was named International Consulting Firm of the Year and Best Place to Work – Large Consulting Firms at the 2024 NCE Awards, and is consistently ranked in the top 10 most sustainable companies globally by Corporate Knights

  • Benefits: Competitive salary, pension, holidays, free private medical insurance, discounted gym membership and more

  • Flexible working arrangements

  • Access to great projects and frameworks

  • Industry-leading training and development, including paid professional subscriptions
