Financial Controller
position. This critical hire will lead core areas of financial control, reporting and compliance, driving process improvement, team development and commercial insight across the finance function. The role is offered on a hybrid basis with occasional UK-wide travel.

The role

Our client is a highly respected, long-established professional services firm with a national footprint and a strong growth trajectory. They have a reputation for delivering best-in-class service to their clients and are now undertaking a major transformation of their finance function to support wider business strategy and performance optimisation. This role sits at the heart of that change and offers the opportunity to work directly alongside the Finance Director and senior leadership team.

The successful candidate will lead the
Management Accounts and Central Reporting teams
, overseeing month-end processes, budgeting and forecasting cycles, statutory reporting, and wider compliance across the group. Acting as a key advisor to the Finance Director and the wider business, this role will bring rigour, insight and accountability to all aspects of financial control and reporting.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will be a qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with strong technical grounding and a commercial mindset. You will be comfortable managing multiple stakeholders and leading teams to deliver high-quality output under tight deadlines. You'll bring a collaborative, proactive and strategic approach to problem-solving, and a strong desire to build a best-in-class finance function.

As Financial Controller, your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Full ownership of the monthly reporting cycle and financial control processes
• Leadership and development of the Management Accounts and Central Reporting teams, including resource planning and performance management
• Production of detailed Firm-wide reporting, ensuring accuracy, variance analysis, and clarity of insights
• Working capital management, including oversight of cash flow reporting, treasury activity and proactive improvement initiatives
• Responsibility for statutory accounts preparation, audit management and technical accounting papers (FRS 102)
• Oversight of indirect tax (VAT) processes and returns
• Management of the annual budget and quarterly reforecasting process, including production of integrated P&L, balance sheet and cash flow models
• Key contact for external auditors and tax advisors, and first point of contact for internal tax/accounting queries
• Drive continuous improvement across finance systems, processes and policies
• Support for strategic projects, business transformation and commercial decision-making

You will ideally possess:

• An honours degree (2:1 or above)
• Full ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (ideally first-time passes)
• Excellent technical accounting knowledge (FRS 102 or similar)
• Strong experience in financial reporting, controls, audit and compliance
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills
• Proven ability to lead and develop teams
• First-class communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Willingness to travel occasionally within the UK as required

• A salary of £75,000 to £95,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
