The Role

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping, scaling, and maintaining our data pipelines and Lakehouse architectures, ensuring they are reliable, high-performing, and cost-efficient.

You'll be joining our Data & BI team, collaborating with internal stakeholders and external partners to enhance and optimise existing systems. You'll be across the development of our data platform supporting The Arsenal App, enabling seamless engagement between our club and our supporters.

We have a very defined purpose: to act for a winning team, culture and community. We achieve this by ensuring we are courageous in the pursuit of progress, we champion our community and each other, and that we do the right thing (even when no one is looking).

  • Construct Kimball-style dimensional models - you'll develop and maintain dimensional models, confirmed dimensions, and fact tables to support analytics and reporting

  • Implement automated testing - you will define and enforce data quality and validation checks, incorporating automated testing into pipeline workflows

  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards - you'll provide guidance on data governance, access controls, encryption, and compliance requirements

  • Collaborate cross-functionally - you will work closely with the wider Data team to internalise knowledge and identify opportunities to optimise existing pipelines

What we are looking for
  • Expertise in cloud-based platforms - you possess hands-on experience with Databricks, PySpark, and Delta Lake, including performance tuning techniques

  • Proven data pipeline development - you're confident in building production-grade ETL/ELT pipelines, with knowledge of integration patterns for SFTP and REST APIs, Pub/Sub

  • Previous experience with Kimball methodology - you're skilled in designing data products using Kimball principles, with solid data modelling capabilities when using a Lakehouse framework

  • Analytical and troubleshooting mindset - you maintain a detail-oriented approach to testing and debugging, implementing testing for data transformations and data quality framework

  • Experience with Azure data services - you're proficient in Azure tools such as ADF, ADLS Gen2, and Event Hubs, with advanced SQL and query optimisation skills

  • Effective communication skills - you are confident working with cross-functional teams, able to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise insights for stakeholders and easily deliver data products to analytics and BI consumers

  • Compliance and governance knowledge - you possess a thorough understanding of data governance, encryption, access control, and industry compliance standards, with the ability to implement and advocate best practices
