Head of Legal

We are partnering with a fast-growing energy-from-waste business looking to appoint a Head of Legal. This is a senior, highly influential position, responsible for establishing and leading the legal function, shaping governance frameworks and acting as a trusted adviser to the executive team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the company’s continued growth, infrastructure development and commercial evolution.Scroll down to find the complete details of the job offer, including experience required and associated duties and tasks.Role OverviewAs Head of Legal, you will provide strategic leadership on all legal, regulatory, compliance and governance matters. You will work closely with the CFO, senior leadership and operational teams to ensure the business operates effectively, responsibly and in line with all applicable laws and industry regulations.Key ResponsibilitiesEstablish and lead the legal function, introducing fit-for-purpose processes, governance structures and compliance frameworks for a scaling energy-from-waste operation.Act as principal legal adviser to the CFO and leadership team, providing strategic and commercially focused guidance across all areas of the business.Lead oversight of regulatory compliance, including environmental, planning, operational and safety regulations relevant to energy-from-waste and related infrastructure activities.Oversee all commercial contracting, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating complex agreements across procurement, supply chain, construction, operations and technology.Advise on strategic projects, including site development, infrastructure expansion, financing arrangements, partnerships and corporate initiatives.Support and lead M&A activity, including due diligence, structuring, negotiations, and integration considerations.Identify and manage legal risks, providing proactive solutions and building a culture of compliance across the organisation.Manage external counsel relationships, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality advice.Interpret and communicate legislative changes, particularly within the energy, environmental and waste management sectors, advising stakeholders on business impact.Handle disputes and claims, coordinating with external specialists where needed.Champion strong governance and ethical practices, developing and maintaining internal policies and procedures.Play an active role in promoting a safe and compliant working environment, supporting health & safety initiatives through sound legal and regulatory guidance.Person ProfileQualified solicitor (UK or equivalent) with significant post-qualification experience.Proven experience operating at senior legal counsel, lead counsel or head of legal level.Strong background in corporate/commercial law with the ability to manage a broad legal portfolio.Experience advising on complex commercial contracts and regulatory matters.Ability to influence senior stakeholders and operate confidently as part of a leadership team.Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.Willingness to travel to UK sites occasionally.Experience within energy, waste, infrastructure, renewables, or heavy industry.Exposure to energy infrastructure projects, energy contracts, or construction/engineering contracting.Experience managing or contributing to M&A transactions.This is a hybrid role that will require at least 1 day per week in the office. xpwpeyx If you are interested in learning more, please submit your CV via the apply button.Seniority levelDirectorEmployment typeFull-timeJob FunctionLegalIndustriesEnergy Technology, Services for Renewable Energy, and Engineering Services#J-18808-Ljbffr
