Lead the Clinical Engineering team, provide strategic direction for the medical device replacement programme, shape the future direction of the department, and support the New Hospital Project.ResponsibilitiesLead the Clinical Engineering team, manage day‑to‑day operations.Develop and implement the medical device replacement programme.Shape the future direction of the Clinical Engineering department within the Healthcare Technology Group.Drive change management and implement accreditation (ISO13485, ISO9001, or other appropriate standard).Oversee procurement and disposal of medical devices, ensuring compliance with MHRA, NICE, WEEE regulations.Deliver projects on time, within cost and scope; manage budgets, produce reports and aim for best value.Compile business cases, manage clinical trials and oversee tenders.Design and deliver cost‑improvement initiatives.Create a safe environment by allocating the right resources (workforce, equipment, technology, training).Attract, mentor and develop clinical engineering staff.Essential qualifications and experienceGood honours degree (1st or 2nd class) or equivalence in Physics, Electronics, Engineering, or equivalent.Relevant MSc/higher degree or equivalence.Professional registration with Academy of Healthcare Sciences (AHCS); Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM); Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT); Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).Substantive, practical experience managing a Clinical Engineering service within an acute NHS hospital.Expert knowledge of legislation, national standards, and professional guidelines for health technologies.Expert knowledge of medical device management policies and procedures (procurement to disposal).Experience of managing budgets, producing reports and achieving best value.Proven track record delivering projects within time, cost, and scope.Experience with ISO 9000, BSI 70000, ISO 13485 quality management systems.Ability to manage operational planning and delivery of medical device projects and patient‑care pathways.Experience highlighting and delivering cost‑improvement initiatives.Proficient in MS Office Suite; experience in training matrixes and clinical education staff to deliver equipment training.Hold current driving licence.DesirableChartered Engineer or Scientist.Skills and abilitiesSpecialised practice knowledge of Clinical Engineering and device applications.Understanding of medical systems, technical data and interdependent services.Knowledge of bespoke IT application packages to optimise service delivery (e.g. F2, EQUIP).Program/project management methodology experience.Physical accuracy and dexterity for fine tools and specialist test equipment.Strong problem‑diagnosis skills for complex devices and networks.Ability to work on complex devices in patient‑sensitive environments.Clear and accurate communication (phone, email, face‑to‑face, reports, presentations).Organise, prioritise and work under pressure managing multiple projects.Negotiation and influencing skills with stakeholders.Mentorship and talent‑management skills.Safe working knowledge of hazards (high voltage, bio‑hazard, compressed gases, ionising radiation).Disability StatementThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and a Disclosure then Barring Service check.Relevant legal statementsWe welcome applications from individuals requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship; applications will be considered subject to UKVI eligibility criteria.LocationDorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Williams Avenue, Dorchester, DT1 2JYEmployment typePermanent, full‑timeSeniority levelDirectorJob functionSenior Engineering, Civil Engineering (as listed).Salary£55,690 to £62,682 a year per annum. xpwpeyx Pay schemeAgenda for changeDate posted18 November 2025Reference number405-25-HS512ENGContactFor more information please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification or contact the Trust at the provided contact details.#J-18808-Ljbffr
