Job overview This is a part time role for 21 hours per week. The Abingdon Emergency Multidisciplinary Unit (Abingdon EMU) provides Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) to patients in the community. We are a Multidisciplinary (MDT) consisting of doctors, nurses, paramedics, physios and occupational therapists aiming to provide holistic care to medically unwell patients in the community and avoid hospital admission. We are looking for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our team and help develop our service. Main duties of the job To work autonomously as an Occupational Therapist as part of an MDT to provide holistic SDEC care to unwell patients. To prioritise, assess, plan and implement patient specific programmes of care, analysing patient needs and making judgements about best practice contributing to the assessment and treatment of patient to prevent hospital admission. To provide leadership for junior/non-registered staff as appropriate to the post, through supervision and appraisal, delegating responsibilities as appropriate. To manage own caseload. To work alongside Community Therapy Services (CTS). To undertake more complex assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner using clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of evidence-based practice and professional expertise. Determine appropriate care plans utilising expert treatment skills and options. To communicate effectively with all patients, and their families/carers using an advanced range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools ensuring their understanding of the diagnosis and treatment plan which may be complex and sensitive. To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload and provide support to junior colleagues undertaking risk assessments.
