Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse - Nelson Day Unit The Nelson Day Unit at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is recruiting for a challenging, yet highly rewarding position of Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse. As the Nelson Day Unit Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse you will work part of the Ophthalmology Team providing care to those awaiting and recovering from surgical eye procedures. You will also form part of the Ophthalmology Leadership Team and support the Clinical Lead with managing the nursing team. You should therefore demonstrate a calm, composed and caring approach whilst working under pressure. We are looking to recruit a motivated and dynamic leader who can bring enthusiasm and Ophthalmic experience to our busy Nelson Day Unit. Main duties of the job The successful post holder will support the Clinical Lead in the effective day-to-day management of the Nelson Day Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high quality, and patient-centred ophthalmic care. They will provide clinical leadership and supervision to the nursing team, acting as a role model and promoting best practice in all aspects of patient care. In addition they will assist in the coordination and delivery of care for patients undergoing ophthalmic surgical and diagnostic procedures, ensuring adherence to local and national guidelines. They will contribute to the monitoring and maintenance of clinical standards, infection prevention, and health and safety within the unit. The successful candidate will be a main point of contact to the Nelson Day Unit and will deputise for the Clinical Lead as required, ensuring continuity of leadership and operational effectiveness within the unit. Assist the Department manager in maintaining standards of nursing practice. Carry out and advise/supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care. To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Ward/Department Sister/ Charge Nurse. To ensure the patient administration systems e.g. PAS are up-dated to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality. To ensure the effective use of information technology for the benefit of patient care in accordance with the Trusts Cyber Code of Conduct. To ensure the confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic) is maintained, whilst being aware of the Freedom for Information Act. To co-ordinate and monitor the progress of patients within their plan of care and to promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status to the multi-disciplinary team. Effectively communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to the multi-disciplinary team gaining their co-operation. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, significant others, the multi-disciplinary team and support services.
