Job summary We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Endoscopy Pathway Improvement Lead to join our team within the NHS. The successful candidate will focus on enhancing the suspected cancer pathway within the Endoscopy service and will play a crucial role in supporting the management of Endoscopy departments across two hospital sites. This position requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in healthcare management and a passion for improving patient outcomes. Main Duties of the Job The Endoscopy Pathway Improvement Lead is responsible for developing and implementing best practice, timed diagnostic pathways to ensure efficient and timely endoscopy services for suspected cancer patients, meeting the Faster Diagnosis Standard. The role involves collaborating with clinical and operational teams, analysing performance data to drive improvements, leading and managing pathway projects, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines, supporting demand and capacity management, and overseeing the endoscopy waiting list through regular validation and prioritisation to optimise patient outcomes and maintain performance targets. HCAS Contract: Fixed‑term Duration: 12 months Working pattern: Full‑time Reference number: 289‑CS‑243 Job locations: Cross‑site – Chelsea & Westminster Hospital / West Middlesex Hospital Fulham Road Chelsea SW10 9NH Key Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of best practice timed diagnostic pathways to ensure timely and efficient endoscopy services for suspected cancer patients, including reducing variation, improving patient experience, and meeting the Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS) of providing a diagnosis or ruling out cancer within 28 days from referral. Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to ensure the successful implementation of pathway improvements, engaging with multidisciplinary teams, auditing pathways, and sharing successes to maintain morale and motivation. Analyse performance data related to Endoscopy and the suspected cancer pathway, including DM01 and FDS performance, to identify areas for improvement; provide regular reports to stakeholders and use data to drive decision‑making and pathway optimisation. Provide leadership and project management for pathway improvement initiatives; set up project management resources, ensure leadership, and coordinate efforts across different teams and departments. Ensure that pathway improvements are in line with existing guidelines such as NICE Guidelines and British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines; stay updated with the latest guidance and incorporate it into pathway design. Support with demand and capacity management to ensure that key performance targets are achieved efficiently and cost‑effectively, monitoring referral demand trends and managing rota to maximise productivity and utilisation. Have a clear oversight of the Endoscopy waiting list, ensure that patients are prioritised correctly and procedures are booked within appropriate timelines to maximise clinical outcomes, mitigate risks and maintain compliance against local and national performance targets. Manage the Endoscopy waiting list through regular validation and a coordinated clinical review process, ensuring data quality and facilitating streamlined clinical prioritisation; liaise with the data assurance team and promote data quality best practice to support the administrative team with relevant workflows. Qualification in Management such as First Line Managers Diploma or equivalent experience. Evidence of on‑going development. Experience Demonstrable management experience (people and processes). Significant NHS experience with sound knowledge of acute hospital processes. Knowledge of Patient Administration System and other relevant Trust system. Intermediate use of MS Excel or other spreadsheet packages. Operational management experience. Experience of managing patient pathways and the related national targets. Desirable Experience of leading a project. Skills and Knowledge Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of business management policies, procedures, practices acquired through education, professional qualifications or experience. Good organisational skills in order to plan and priority workload. Able to deal with conflict management and problem solving.
