Movement assessment and intervention to develop gross and fine motor skills. Sensory assessment and strategies to promote self-regulation. Coaching, modelling and training staff in a range of strategies and techniques, to support independence and encourage opportunity throughout the waking day. Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) PBS (Positive Behaviour Support) aims for a consistent and predictable environment to support people to be happy, regulated, independent and learn new skills with access to meaningful activities and positive relationships to enable a good quality of life. Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) The aim of SaLT is to develop a young person’s communication skills so they have a functional communication system they can independently use to appropriately and effectively communicate for a range of reasons, with a range of people across a range of environments. Prior’s Court adopts the Total Communication approach to help young people to form connections, ensure meaningful interactions and support exchanges of information. Total Communication honours and accepts all forms of communication and we support a combination of methods so that communication can be individualised for each young person. October is Augmentative and Alternative Communication Awareness Month - the goal of AAC Awareness Month is to explore and raise awareness of the many different ways people can communicate. The Wave Model and the PBS Framework Universal Input / Tier 1 : Everyone at Prior’s Court is responsible for Universal and Tier 1 input. This is about consistently using and embedding strategies and skills within everything young people do. Our Therapy and Multi-Disciplinary Teams make recommendations and upskill staff to empower them to take responsibility for this level of input. Targeted Input / Tier 2 : Therapy and Multi-Disciplinary Teams are responsible for monitoring Targeted and Tier 2 input, but it may be delivered by other staff 1 : 1 or in groups with the appropriate support. This is to support generalisation of strategies and skills by teaching in a range of environments and with different people. Specialist Input / Tier 3 : Therapists and Multi-Disciplinary teams are responsible for implementing and monitoring Specialist and Tier 3 input. This may be to establish new skills or re-assess before making targeted and universal recommendations; or a functional assessment to understand a young person better and propose ways to improve support. Medical support Prior’s Court has a medical department which consists of qualified nurses and administration support who are responsible for the medical care of all young people. If parents need to speak to the medical department they may contact them on direct line 01635 245922 during working hours or a message may be left on voicemail. The medical department must be informed of all medication that your child is taking in writing, including all changes to medication. All young people placed at Prior’s Court should be registered with the local GP (The Download Practice, The Surgery, East Lane, Chieveley, Newbury, Berkshire RG20 8UY, telephone 01635 248251). The medical department will arrange this when your child starts at the school. Any young person over the age of 18 will need a medical exemption certificate for prescriptions and dental care. All staff who are involved in the handling and administration of medication are trained with regard to safety, security and administration. Staff only undertake special care duties if they have received the relevant training. A record is kept in school of all staff training received relating to the administration of medication. This record shows individual competencies, responsibilities and authorisations. Published : 2nd September, 2025 Updated : 23rd September, 2025 Author : Bethany Daley-Franks #J-18808-Ljbffr
