WBT Centre Occasional Gym Supervisor

Location. The Frank Hutchings Hall, Thatcham

Purpose of the role. The Service is intended for clients who have disabilities or health problems that can be expected to improve, be maintained or be prevented from deteriorating, through use of the facilities.

The job role is to support and assist The Centre’s clients, all of whom have disabilities, to take exercise safely and in comfort, in compliance with their individual exercise programmes.

This includes:

- To arrange that the facilities will be ready and suitably staffed, for clients to use the services safely at all agreed opening times,
- To arrange and amend bookings in line with available capacity,
- To work with the Full Time Gym Supervisor (or in his or her absence the team of part-time Gym Supervisors), and with the Physiotherapists and Trustees in the delivery of therapy and exercise services.

Main tasks and duties
- To carry out opening or closing procedures to ensure the premises are fully ready for clients and others to use and enjoy.
- To encourage clients to make voluntary contributions in line with policies agreed by the Trustees and to follow cash handling and recording procedures securely, in liaison with the WBTC Director of Finance.
- To explain the service and its benefits to prospective clients.
- To make clients individually feel welcome, comfortable and confident about taking therapy, including offering help with drinks and similar comforts.
- To work closely with the Physiotherapist(s) or other staff to ensure smooth running of all aspects of service delivery, excluding physical handling of clients and setting up equipment.
- To store and retrieve, securely and systematically, client assessment and similar records of individual needs and abilities, such that the records will be readily available when next required. Typically records include personal data and will include medical history, medications, weight, blood pressure, physical abilities, contra-indications, and ways in which the Service might deliver outcomes beneficial to the clients in future visits.

- To congratulate and encourage clients on completion of each visit to the

Centre and to encourage them to commit to ongoing therapy as appropriate.
- To cover other reception duties that may arise.
- To maintain awareness that the equipment is functioning as intended and is safe for clients to use and to recommend remedial action as appropriate.
- Generally to promote the good name of West Berkshire Therapy Centre, its aspirations and achievements.
- The organisation employs cleaning contractors out of hours, but all staff are expected to work in a clean and tidy manner, which includes ensuring that the toilet, kitchen and all other areas look presentable through the working day.
- To work in close liaison with all other staff to ensure as far as possible that the work rota ensures there will always be at least one Gym Supervisor on site during opening hours. This will be within a framework to be agreed with the other Gym Supervisors, which may be mutually renegotiated from time to time between the Gym Supervisors and a Director.
- To work within and promote and monitor compliance with the organisation’s

Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Data Protection and other WBTC policies and procedures.
- To monitor that clients, their companions and other visitors are safe, made to feel comfortable, and are able to enjoy the facilities.
- To adhere to the organisation’s IT procedures. These include the bookings system, assessments records, cash management, data protection and similar matters.
- To make recommendations where appropriate that will contribute to the development and more effective use of WBTC’s IT systems
- To provide information to the Trustees to help them to direct the organisation in an appropriate way and to recommend improvements for the Trustees to consider.

Resources.

The Centre has a 1,000 sq ft gym, equipped with motorised equipment designed and adapted for people with disabilities. The main equipment is Shapemaster Easytone chairs, full body powered cycling machines, a Biodex treadmill, A Balance System and a VibroGym, about eighteen major items of motorised and non-motorised items in total.

A rotating team of Physiotherapists will provide assessments and have clinical accountability for the delivery of the therapy services and will work closely with the
Gym Supervisors and the Co-ordinator, roles requiring flexible team working. A
Bookkeeper will look after some cash management matters. The organisation uses volunteers in various support roles. Some clients may be accompanied by carers, who should be
