We are recruiting a Wellbeing Officer to promote independence and well‑being for customers living within the independent living service and to provide a flexible service able to respond to changing support needs of our tenants. A Wellbeing Officer must provide the necessary support and advice to those customers living within the independent living service which will enable them to continue to live independently within their own home. The successful applicant would need to work alongside the Independent Living Officer to effectively and efficiently oversee the running of the organisation’s independent living service to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction. The role requires lone working and working on your own initiative, but the position also requires the Officer to work as part of a team to provide excellent services to customers in accordance with legal requirements and relevant policies and procedures. Responsibilities Deliver a housing related support service to customers living in Independent Living Accommodation Assess support needs, providing guidance and advice on other support services/agencies and how to access them Assess the need for telecare equipment, processing referrals and the installation and programming of this equipment Seek the involvement of other agencies and statutory bodies to help to provide the necessary support to enable customers to maintain their tenancy Act as a co‑ordinator of support services, including liaising with family members Provide high levels of customer service, including the provision of appropriate and accurate advice, taking ownership of communications from internal and external customers Ensure that customers receive support on a short‑term basis and during emergencies Be alert to the state of health and welfare of customers and to take the appropriate action where necessary Give help and support to residents in cases of accident or illness until the assistance of the emergency services is obtained Respond quickly to emergency calls from the Independent Living Officer or customers when on duty and summon the General Practitioner and/or emergency services as appropriate and if assistance is summoned, stand by and offer reassurance until it arrives Work in conjunction with the Independent Living Officer to promptly report issues to the relevant teams to ensure that health and safety regulations are met including actions identified through the annual risk assessment Ensure the personal details of any resident are provided promptly to the Council’s Control Centre and notify the Control Centre of the death or leaving of any resident; preparing and forwarding bereavement notice Maintain a record of the names, addresses and telephone numbers of residents’ General Practitioners and relatives Educate new residents in the use of all equipment and services within the scheme Work with and support the Resident Involvement Team in promoting and fostering a sense of community and encouraging and creating activities for the residents Ensure that the Council’s policies – including but not limited to Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety and Customer Service – are complied with through all activities and that all work is undertaken in accordance with the relevant codes of practice and legislation Be flexible in undertaking the duties and responsibilities attached to this role and may be asked to perform other duties which reasonably correspond to the general character of their job and level of responsibility Qualifications Have experience of working in sheltered housing or a social care environment in a customer facing role. Act sensitivity and understand the needs of older people and the potential risks of ageing in terms of mental and physical frailty. Understand lone working, professional boundaries and confidentiality issues. Have experience of identifying safeguarding issues, reporting and referring to appropriate agencies. Have experience of Health and safety regulations e.g. manual handling, fire safety and risk assessments. Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds. Understand the commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. Have knowledge of the support needs of older persons and the role of other agencies in meeting these. Have proven ability to keep accurate records. Possess the ability to plan a diverse workload and schedule tasks with limited supervision. Possess the ability to work under own supervision using initiative to deliver services and uses initiative to find appropriate solutions. Be able to maintain confidentiality, deal sensitively with difficult situations and be trustworthy. Use time efficiently and completes tasks/projects on time through routine planning of own work and organisational resources. Be committed to improve the service through dynamic thinking and innovative practices. Keep appropriate people informed of progress on tasks/projects. Be a good listener, able to emphasise with others and communicate effectively in all forms. Work efficiently and effectively and use resources responsibly. Respond to queries and complaints in a timely manner. Possess a full driving licence and access to a motor vehicle. Must have excellent IT skills including a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages. Have grades A‑C at GCSE including Mathematics and English or a relevant qualification at NVQ Level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. It would be beneficial to have an appropriate professional full or part qualification e.g. sheltered housing studies or equivalent housing qualification and have basic First Aid training.
